Meh. Standard AP and Hubbs during portal/signing season.

AP and Hubbs during spring/fall camp: “New guys are huge. Really look the part. Move well. XXX appears to be pushing for starting snaps. Will be a factor.”

So it goes.
TBH, if they tell the full truth they will most likely lose access. Everything from the media should be read between the lines. Info is filtered through the staff.

Funny. Most make fun of AP and Hubbs saying they don’t know anything and they just guess. Now because it’s negative, all of a sudden they know what they are talking about.

VN logic at its finest.

It goes both ways. Hubbs and AP usually have a good general thumb on the pulse of the program. If they report something that we don’t like we discount it by rambling about past misses. If we like it then all is well.

IDT they're desperate. Motivated and focused, yes. But you have to get better guys than you currently have. It doesn't make sense to overpay for guys you don't think bring what you need right now.
Desperate people make non intelligent decisions...
Happy CJH believes in what he is trying to do, by not overpaying and finding the rite players ...

Well, UK beat the brakes off us in 2020 in Knoxville. Should I base my assumptions on that result in that series or look at the history of the rivalry? Are UK fans "irrational" when they count us as a loss? Or are our fans "irrational" when they count the UK game as a win every year no matter the venue or the team records/rankings? Which is more rational....looking at a history over the course of nearly 50 years with multiple coaches or basing one's expectations on a single game in 2022?
Actually, Jarrett Geronimo beat the brakes off of us in 2020 in Knoxville with his eleventy billion pick sixes.

First, the loss to Florida was very disappointing. You just have to beat a rival when they're down. They won't be down for long. But, as for the whole season being a disappointment? Not for me. Going 9-4 is very respectable especially given the losses the previous year.

And yes, we need to get over the hurdle of losing to rivals like Florida every year. But we're not even close to being the only team doing that. For ever, Michigan lost to Ohio State until recently. I'm looking for that type of turn around.

I can agree on that. The season is very meh to me. It definitely isn't as bad as past seasons but I felt like we took a step back and it was mostly due to that one loss.

So the best team doesn't always win but Tennessee should not have lost because they were the best team in your opinion? Interesting. You realize Florida also has better talent than us in 2023 according to 247, right?

So more star power, at home, and even if were slightly better (possible) the best team doesn't always win, but you find the entire season to be a "disappointment" because of that 1 game even though it's one of our best seasons in the last 20 years. Weird...

An 8-4/9-4 team should have beaten a 5-7 team.

We lost to a 5-7 team. End of story. Florida was inferior and it was shown based on both team's performances across the entire season.

It is worse when you take into the context that we haven't beaten Florida in the Swamp since I was in college in the early 2000s.

Not winning at an opponents arena in over 10 years is crap that Vanderbilt pulls.

They have said as much in podcasts. Not specifically use the term dead weight, but something along the lines of "the room is crowded." The takeaway I came away with is there is not a lot of separation from several guys. That makes it harder for guys to see their opportunity when shopping us.
So people took words said on a podcast by people that know slightly more than we do and they made assumptions off of those words that equated to our young OL are garbage and aren't panning out? Seems like we a starting with an endstate and massaging the evidence to fit what our predetermined conclusions were.

Speaking for myself, I'm in no way implying the program is anything but ascending. What my concern is(stated multiple times), is that we maximize our roster for the period of time we have what appears to be a super talented, possibly generational, QB in Nico. We've got the gun but we won't do much with out ammo. Nico needs time/protection and he needs weapons to throw to. In time, it appears we'll have both, but time is a luxury we don't have if everyone is right about him. So while I'm with everyone else in that HS recruiting is the way to go and being patient as you build a roster, I'd really like to dive a little deeper into the portal to give Nico as much support as possible during his short stay at UT. It's like an MLB team that sees an opportunity to win a world series so they sacrifice a few top prospects to get that one guy who can take them to the top. I think it's what Kiffin is trying to do at Ole Miss. He's got the roster. He's got a favorable schedule. He's adding all the pieces he can to try and make that special season happen. Of course, I realize he's going to leave Ole Miss to deal with the fallout. He's angling for a better job, but can we not secure some help without sacrificing the long term prospect of the program? I hope so.

I agree with you. I am not the person that is on here saying that it isn't a bad thing that we missed these targets, I just don't think the sky is falling.

As I pointed out, little things like this is what keeps us at that 8-4 level and not getting to the next level where we can compete regularly with Alabama.

Is he in the portal yet?

We are a completely different team than the 9-4 team last year…
