Recruiting Football Talk VII

DD was my favorite of the Kiffin-Pruitt coaches. He just seemed like a goofy, down-to-earth guy. I hated the outcome of his years, but I still enjoyed him as a person. Pruitt was my least favorite. I always got the sense he was an idiot who conned his way into the job. I bought into the Butch hype, but then realized after about year 2 that he was a used car salesman. And Kiffin was Kiffin, I respected him but I also didn’t feel he was right for the culture at the time.

As for Heupel, I enjoy his style, he’s not flashy but he’s also not an a-hole. He just wants to do his job and coach football.

Somewhere in the Basilio archives is the episode “Derek Dooley Tell Me a Story” and it’s phone calls from people who had interaction with Dooley around town. It’s worth a listen for sure.

One guy worked at a home improvement store and Dooley came in. He said DD asked him questions about light bulbs for 45 minutes. Then when he was satisfied he bought $5 worth of bulbs and left.

They did the same for Butch

Out of kiffin, Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt, Dooley was my favorite by far. Really wanted him to succeed. Great pressers, the orange pants was cool too… I did not like how he alienated former players though
Same. Sunseri doomed him, that last year with Bray was one of the best offenses we've ever had.

Milton sucked period. No touch on his throws and terrible field awareness. Couldn’t throw a receiver open to save his life. Constantly staring down his WR target instead of going through progressions. Literally throwing the ball late almost every time which would force him to throw absolute bullets for no reason. I don’t care what you say. There is a reason he only had 1 - 300yd game.
Drink three bottles of magnesium citrate to clear all this vitriol out of your system. Let it go and look forward to a better tomorrow. Living in a past that you obviously hate isn’t good for you. 👍

I think both Anthony Miller and Stanley Morgan (played mostly RB, here) both had over 10,000 yards rec. in their NFL careers. In fact, Morgan should probably be in the NFL HoF, imo. Monster stats for that era.
Stanley Morgan and Larry Seivers on the same team......................................but crappy QB play

Trivia time:

Name the Vols who have been named SEC Player of the Year:
(1933-2001) it was one award
(2002-present) it is Offense PoY and Defense PoY

Took the fam to Cirque tonight.

Holy s***

The stuff they can do is crazy.
I love Cirque - but they rarely come to the Emerald Coast. I’ve seen two shows, one in Atlanta and one in Destin. I was in awe, it was a combination of amazing strength, and body control, and beauty, and production.

Why are we not talking about things like this?
Too much happiness involved in the reviewing of the good to great things that happened in the Citrus Bowl.

“Realists” are trying hard to make the gloom and doom era that they reveled in to continue in perpetuity. 😡

Maybe it’s time for the Optimistic VFLs to unite and beat down the naysayers. I’m very excited about everything Volunteer currently. 17-0 🤠

I see bitching about speed bumps when we used to have the Himalayan mountains between us and success in sports. 😁

Why worry about whether to throw bag at Mincey when he's gone in his mind and a head case when he has been here? People forget he transferred in from UF in the first place. He played there two seasons. The only reason he was coming back was because he would not be drafted and could not transfer again. The rule changed and now he can. Buh bye. If you cannot find a Campbell type out there, develop and play the best young one you have. There is enough talent on the roster to get that and the other back-ups done. Nico and Heup are quite capable of adjusting to conditions on the ground.
🤔👍

Hahaha! I feel like only DD can come up with 45 minutes worth of lightbulb discussions 😂
