Recruiting Football Talk VII

Has the NCAA underestimated the response from UT? I mean the Vols historically rolled over and exposed our keister. Did they seriously think this was going to come out well for them?

I wonder if Donde's reaching out for a meeting was perceived as capitulation? They reached in the cage for the abused dog and have now gotten bit.
Part of me wonders if they’re falling on their sword in a last-ditch effort to convince Congress to act. I just don’t see any avenue where they come out well here.

Tennessee wasn't supposed to have great success the past two years. We were supposed to wallow in mediocrity.

We worked with the NCAA during the Pruitt debacle...... In part because it served our purpose. The NCAA wasn't satisfied and came back for another bite after they paid lip service to our cooperation and the over the top gushing at our willingness to submit.

They thought they could use us as a whipping post, flog us as an example to keep others in line and their power intact. Except this serves no purpose for Tennessee. There will be no cooperation, we sought a partner, they weren't interested. Now they have a fight. Plowman set the tone, I will forever be grateful for that response and her willingness to fight.

The NCAA just poked the bear one too many times.

Add to that statements coming from Donde, state reps, and Tom Mars indicating that we’ve been going out of our way to discern rules/compliance with no help from the NCAA.

Seems like there’s plenty of evidence stacked to suggest we did all we could to be compliant but the NCAA is dead set on being stupid.
Oh yeah. That rhetoric doesnt come down unless you are stone sure...

Remember when I said the NCAA was a corrupt organization ran by a select few schools that used their judicial arm to hold down competitors?

Except they didn’t realize we would actually fight. If other schools get involved and back us, if they don’t back down, it could be the end of them.

Tennessee is experiencing a Renaissance in sports. Baseball, Football, and Basketball are humming. The fanbase is completely engaged. We finally have a really good football coach and AD and elite talent are noticing. And then comes the NCAA with a pin ready to deflate our tires.

What a freaking joke. I truly do hope this is the end of the NCAA and the dawn of an effective, unbiased enforcement of guidelines by some other mechanism. They've kicked the hornets nest and I don't believe they'll like the result.

People are gonna kill me for saying this, and I can’t speak regarding Boss Nick, but I believe Donde has Greg Sankey’s blessing on this.
I'm totally convinced Saban was sitting at the head of the table of the cabal. He's behind a lot of our misfortune. I will be looked at as crazy talk but it wouldn't surprise me that Pruitt wasn't sent to destroy the program. I mean some of the stuff he did was so blatantly stupid. I don't think they counted on being kicked to the curb without an enormous buyout though.

The NCAA has been sniffing around UT for months. UT has looked into it internally and does not feel the university did anything wrong. This is a well-orchestrated campaign, months in the making. It comes from the top, there has been a top-notch legal team in place and there is widespread support, including our old friend in B'Ham.
