Further proof a dominant big man is holding us back. Not a coincidence the two most dominant centers meet in the finals. Also in all the tournament games I watched I have yet to see a 3 second call.

Barnes does need a real double threat big man that can hold his own against anybody on both ends of the floor.

We had 2 frequent and easily identifiable flaws this year...and having a ghost show up against great bigs was one of them.

Offense disappears when they play competent defensive teams

Tennessee shut them down for 9 minutes in Tuscaloosa

Seems if you can disrupt them from getting to their quick scoring spots, they are pedestrian

Wonder if the SEC will figure them out and start beating them regularly sometime soon

No...because few teams have the defensive players to do what we do to them.

I get why we slipped out of the 1 seed talk but I believe we were the 5th best team and we should have been in UNC's bracket.

Yep...they did it on purpose. The NCAA got the matchup for us they wanted and made sure the refs were going to call it for Purdue.

Our last 5* QB was Casey Clausen.

In just 3 classes Heupel has recruited 2 5*s. And a high 4* sandwiched in between.

Weird how UNC and Bama were on the selection committee and sent themselves to the regional we earned. "Unexpected."

I'd be confident moving us up to 4th ahead of UNC post-tourney. I think being behind them was questionable to begin with.

But we started welll behind Houston who was #2 most of the way. They only lost after their best player was injured and we only made it 1 more game than they did. For the entire year, I'd put us just behind Purdue as of now. Obviously Purdue would deserve the bump if they won. I'd have us 4th regardless of NC outcome.

Amazing season. Top notch team, but just short of elite for various small reasons.

I agree except I don't think they were small reasons...I think there were 2 big reasons and it took both of them happening to overcome our elite strengths.

The only teams that bother UConn are long and athletic. Why I thought Houston had a shot against them.

Edey will finally meet his match with similar height. And 1 through 4 UConn can dominate 18 feet and in and press 3 pt shooters with their own length. They'll be too much across the board.

UNCONN is the better team by miles but don’t matter if they send Purdue to the line every possession lol

The trolls run the show there. It's disheartening to see such frank hate and bigotry in one giant pile like that. I wish they would go cheer for Bama.

Yep - and Indiana hasn’t done much since the 80s. They might be the Nebraska of men’s basketball.

The NCAA stole Kelvin Sampson from them or they would have stayed elite.

This hire will test posters who believe Danny White hires only elite winners (as we’ve been told recently while debating Barnes).

Don’t get me wrong - I support DW and whomever he hires. But if he rolls out a name we don’t know, I will be fascinated to see how those posters respond.

I am one of those posters but that is not what DW does…. It’s not about winning the press conference… He typically chooses coaches that match qualities that he looks for….. He especially looks for innovative coaches with newer concepts like Leipold, or Oates.

He gives them 100% support and helps strengthen whatever weakness that a coach has…. He was the one that talked Heup into playing fast. I don’t think Heup would be near as successful if he coached under our previous ADs…. There is a reason that we are the number one all sports school now and that reason is DW.

There is no guarantee that the next coach will be as good/better than Barnes. There are a lot of variables that can make a coach fail. DW is not infallible but I have 100% faith that this University/basketball program is in good hands with him… Go Vols!!!

It’s truly amazing. They think Leipold hasn’t done a good job at KANSAS.

They think Heupel has had one good season. Year one was borderline miraculous, year two was the best season in 23 years, and year three was the second best season in 17 years. Just foolishness.

FWIW they were able to get away with more physicality against Purdue than we were. If our game against Purdue was called like this game I like our chances.

Yep, NCSU was 3/4 from the line and Purdue was 9/10.
