Recruiting Football Talk VII

Obviously a coach with only one season as a D1 head coach isn’t going to move the needle for some folks, particularly the Kellie defenders. I think there are some things to like about the hire, though. She has an innovative brand of basketball, particularly on offense and has won big at all of her stops. It only took her one season at Marshall to set the school record for wins and got them to the ncaa tournament for the first time since 1997.

Question about her is simple: can she bring in talented players? If she can, good times are ahead. If she can’t, we’ll be coach searching again here in a few years. It’s all going to circle back to getting players. That’s the only way to get back to the upper echelon of women’s hoops.

Imagine being mad bout hiring a coach that just took a scrub team and winning the conference tournament in her 1st season... is they a way we can block a certain forum? They's some lunatics in the LV forum and I even seen a couple there that wonders in here.. some of their takes are absolutely wild. Seen several DW is overrated, we'll not make the tournament the next 3-4yrs, we'll be here again in 2-3 seasons, & my fav was *we're following along with the football hires" or some dumb sh!t like that.

Give the woman a chance🤦‍♂️. Wanna see why ppl say Vol fans are crazy & annoying just take a look at that forum or any fb/Instagram post.. Good Lord. Rant over lol

Exactly the type of hire I expected. As witnessed in the football program, the further you get from greatness, the harder the climb back. I trust DW, I think this coach can be really good. Time will tell. I'll be pleased just to see some real offensive sets. Lots of unknowns here but I'm excited to see what she can do.

There is a meltdown brewing in the LV forum.

My worry here is the LV program is a prestigious, high energy job. A lot like the football program, it requires a certain caliber of coach to manage and bring it success. Does a coach with one year of D-1 experience, even with her previous stints and success this year, meet those qualifications? In DW and Plowman I trust, but I’m also left with a bad taste from Pruitt, a man I never thought would be successful. She checks way more boxes than he did, but the lack of experience in a job of this magnitude worries me.
Thing with Pruitt was that he was probably never HC material to begin with imo and no one was really touching our FB program then. Good DC, but shouldn’t be a HC.

No I agree and like I said, on paper the two are not equivalent. But in terms of experience at a program of this size, they both lack that and that just worries me. I am not saying she’ll be Pruitt or is even like Pruitt, but he left me with bad vibes when it comes to hiring inexperienced coaches.

That's why I think a great Xs and Os coach is crucial. The LVs will always attract talented players. You just have to give them an excuse. We need a coach that can do more with less to kick things off. Confidence from fans/boosters will fix the NIL thing, I think.
Attracting talented players is really about NIL these days. Recruiting at UT is a lot more challenging than it used to be. SCAR, LSU and Texas have their NIL game running, and to be at that level, UT has to compete at that level.

I’m genuinely curious, LA, and you may not be able to say anything now, either out of respect for the search or just out of lack of information, but did we talk to others and were turned down? Or was Caldwell number 1 from the get go?

Yeah it spreads a little bit each year hence, the word “creeping”..you can actually pull some of it up and transplant somewhere else if u don’t want it in your actual yard.🤗
Really want it to fill the space by my mailbox so it is one less place I will need to mulch. Will get some more for other spots that I hate having to mulch every year too! Thanks for the info!
