Recruiting Football Talk VII

I wonder if he built so much of a brand around it he couldn't get past it in the eyes of recruits. They expect to go to Kentucky on a one year loan whether they need more development or not.

Maybe he can get over that at Arkansas, and maybe that messed up idea sticks at Kentucky and screws them for a few more years.
With the NIL money he’s going to have at his disposal he won’t fully change, IMO. I still bet he goes after one and done elite recruits but leaves more than enough money left afterwards to look for elite transfers to take them over the top and supplement the freshman. 5-6M a year in NIL can go a long way. Either way though, Cal has never won because of his brilliant Xs and Os.. he’s won because of his talent. In my opinion, the SEC and MBB in general is better than it’s ever been. The one and done route hasn’t worked well for Cal lately because of this. I think he’s going to need to be head and shoulders above in talent level like he used to be to get the results that Arkansas thinks he can get. He can, and he has enough NIL to do so, but will he? Idk. For 8M a year in salary, and 5-6M year in NIL, he better get results.. and quick.

Kentucky fans are spoiled no doubt but I see Cal as an moderate upgrade for Arkansas only because of recruiting, however if Kentucky fails to get someone like Nate oats or better that will be hilarious

Not sure what "moderate" means to you, but Musselman flashed for one season there. He's not exactly an great coach.

And Cal is still a great coach? The one and done method is still his bread and butter and that hasn’t worked in almost 10 years. The strategy now is finding experienced transfers sprinkled in with guys you recruited who usually want to stay longer than one year…

On Kim Caldwell. She's the hire and all Vol fans should get behind her. Anyone hoping she fails just to make DW look bad isn't really a fan.
This x100
She’s better then the last 2 VFL’s that were hired to lead the team
Those LV fans need to relax
They are insane and make football forum regulars look sane
Some of The posters in that ladyVol forum are kind of an embarrassment to Tennessee

The one with the NFL player pointing and picking out who he mouths **** you too, is hilarious.

Ya that's poor sportsmanship, I'd rather our players not be doing that. But bat flipping and summersaulting and celebrating would make baseball a whole lot more enjoyable.

The most fun I've had watching golf is where a player got an eagle or hole in one or something and the crowd went bonkers and showered them with water and champagne. Celebrations make slow sports more enjoyable for me.

Yes he is, absolutely a great coach. You don't win 77% of your games at Kentucky with 4 final four appearances and 1 national championship being bad.

Those are 2nd all time at Kentucky. He also has a total of 12 conference championships in 15 years there, 6 regular season and 6 SEC Tournament titles. Tennessee as a program only has 5 SEC Tournament titles.

Cal's 1 & done method was a Kentucky thing. He'll return to a more balance roster at Arkansas because he won't have the brand to replicate that recruiting philosophy and I don't know how anyone can say he's not a great X's & O's coach when he took UMass to a FF and even made a championship game while at Memphis. With exactly 1 player that was a 1 & done.

Tre Mitchell, Antonio Reeves, Sahvir Wheeler, Oscar Tshiebwe, Davion Mintz, Jacob Toppin, Olivier Sarr all portal players Cal brought in and won with and most he helped put in the NBA too.

If ya don't like Cal that's fine, but to act like a guy that's consistently brought in top recruits both HS and transfer is suddenly going to be lost at Arkansas where he'll likely have MORE NIL behind him is wild.

Arkansas could not have hired a better coach.

I have to say...this is a boss move by Calipari if this happens...heck it may have happened already, I don't know because I've been out of pocket..

Either way..Calipari telling Kentucky their 33 million don't mean crap to him, and his pride is worth more to him, that he will not grovel and take the endless slings of 💩 from the admin or fanbase after what he has done there is actually impressive to me...I did not see that coming.

My respect for him went from zilch to at least a little.

So....it is a done deal now? I've been out of touch for a while.

Kentucky is certainly spoiled...Cal hasn't been trending the best but he's a great coach overall. They sound like Ohio State in football not being happy with Ryan Day. Things can be sooooo much worse and these spoiled fan bases have no idea. Tip of the hat if you can get rid of someone like Calipari or Ryan Day and land a better coach but it typically doesn't work that way. Bama did "okay" on their football hire and that cupboard was stocked to say the least. Only upgrades from Calipari I can think of would be Oats or Jay Wright. There are plenty of others I'm sure but none that would leave their current gig that come to mind. Oats and Wright are obvious pipe dreams too.

I bolded the part that didn’t make sense to me knowing the history of Kentucky basketball before Cal arrived, his method needs to change but until I see that method changing it’s just your feelings on the matter…also not sure why ppl are liking your post even when I said he was a moderate improvement over Musselman.
