Recruiting Football Talk VII

He gets special treatment, think Alabama, Zach Edey, or Tom Brady. If it's not your team you hate the people who get special treatment and advantages.
LeBron is handled with kid gloves. You can't breathe on him, dribbling while moving with basketball is optional, he regularly cusses officials and doesn't get techs, constantly gets a pass when he says outrageous things, and oh boy you will catch hell if you call a foul on him.
I remember plenty of complaining about MJ getting special treatment.

Damn good series.

If just talking LBJ, the dude is almost 40. MJ never saw a winning record at this age.

Jokic the best there is right now.
Jordan took two seasons off after his first 3 championships (due to gambling, death of father, lack of desire to play, or for whatever reason) and then took three seasons off before signing with the Wizards. If Jordan had been able to play or had played in those middle Bulls seasons, they could have won 8 consecutive championships, and he would have obviously added to his stats.

James has been able to play on assembled super-teams that helps to keep his winning percentage at a high level. If free agency had been similar at the time, Jordan could have assembled a better group to play with him and Stackhouse. Unfortunately for Jordan, knee problems derailed his seasons with the Wizards even though he did average 22.9 and 22.0 ppg in those Wizards' seasons. James had been relatively healthy over his career and still averaged 25.7 ppg this season at 39 years old, which is incredible. James did not play less than 62 games in a season over his first 15 seasons but has played in less than 62 games in 4 of the last 6 seasons. Age is becoming a factor. Both great players.

He's not Michael Jordan and has a personality that grates on some people. Also, people perceive him as not having the killer mentality that other greats like MJ amd Kobe did and think this era of basketball is "softer" and thus, easier to put up numbers.
I heard even at the house Lebron's wife pads his stats .

I've mentioned this before. If I were to assemble a top 5 all time team, Lebron is one player that gives me difficulty. He'd play Powar Forward but I'm not sure he'd start over some other Power Forwards in history (Time Duncon). MJ and Majic Johnson are two that would absolutely be on that team.

I was one of them, I have not watched except occasionally an NBA game since "the Jordan Rules." I personally don't think either Michael or LeBron is the best of all time. I think the best basket player of all time is Larry Bird. And I was a Sixers fan. He was the best in an era that was the toughest and most competitive time in the NBA.

I’m not sure but I think it has to do with equaling out numbers of scholarships - the women’s sports scholarships I think are supposed to equal the men’s sports scholarships in number. I know we have rowing but some schools don’t. Auburn & Georgia have equestrian but we don’t, we have volleyball but Vandy doesn’t. I don’t really how schools decided what sports to add and remove when Title IX happened.
They picked their strongest. Not sure why Vandy decided to keep football and didn't replace it with chess.

I despised Bird and disliked both Jordan and Kobe, yet appreciate their greatness today. Mebbe I simply abhor his use of the bully pulpit on social media (which wasn’t a factor with the previous mentions) targeting the GM of the Rockets for speaking out against the human abuses committed by China (the piggy bank that’s mostly funded his near billionaire status) and the police officer who saved an African-American girl by shooting another one millimeter from stabbing her to death. His micromanaging the rosters of both the Cavaliers and the Lakers and then criticizing the teams for the failed results. There’s transcendent greatness in his body of work on the court, but not letting his play speak for itself and not quite delivering in the clutch reduced him on my list. People that love him won’t be affected by the many who don’t.
His social media presence has done him no favors, that's for sure. Social/Traditional media and celebrity expectations to take a stand on social issues makes it tough to fly under the radar. Everybody's laundry and opinion are on full display. Hell, our most important and influential president had a lesbian wife, several mistresses, and was paralyzed from the waste down and the public was none the wiser. That's leaps and bounds from where we sit today.

Molding a roster to fit your objectives is a long-standing tradition with NBA superstars. It precedes Lebron by decades. Bird, Magic, Jordan, Thomas, et al all had a strong say in personnel decisions.

It does seem to be envogue to beatup Lebron. Bashing politicians, athletes, and celebrities is a disturbing trend. If I had any sort of public presence, I'd try like Hell to keep my mouth and keyboard quiet.

People forget how great Pau and Odom were for that period. And you gotta love some Derek Fisher. He won them a couple rings just off playoff buzzer beaters alone.
I grew up a die hard Kobe fan, but to act like that team and the current Laker team isn’t comparable, is completely dishonest

meanwhile the gumps are signing four 4* bball players... WTF... I can't stand oates. what's the pull? NIL?
Great, youngish coach. Fun system to play in. Just made a FF. Has won multiple SEC titles in short order.

Without the Cal + UK pull...other SEC teams have a good opp for talent to come play in the league.

If I'm assembling a "Dream" team of prime-level players, Kareem is the first pick and it's not even close. He was a cheat code his entire career. Just a monster presence, tough as nails, and super competitive. He possessed the single most unstoppable shot in NBA history.

Where was the comparison? I'm talking about how great that team was.

It's leader was only 32, if wanting to compare, not 39 lol. Both teams had 2 top-25 players at the time. 2010 had better size across the entire backend, and PG. AD makes up for a lot of that, but not enough for 3 big men and Pau was a beast in his own right. If Lebron is 32 here, big difference obviously.

That 2010 Lakers team led the entire West. To not see how talented they were you'd have to have not witnessed them. Pau...Odom...Bynum what a triple threat down low to go with PG and SG. Can only imagine the twitter post was from a young'en and that's fine. A lot of those guys aren't household names these days, but they did serious damage for a short period.

He’ll be ok. No minds will be changed one way or the other.

Magic was a point guard. A 6'9" point guard who played 1-5 throughout his career, unheard of at the time. If his career wasn't cut short he probably would have gone down as the best ever.

As I said, I witnessed them, and the teams are comparable from an overall talent perspective

Similar with caitlyn. I hate her so much and none of it is her fault. I'm just so sick of seeing her and Taylor and Kelce. I want all of them to fail miserably at whatever they do.
Well at least you agree it isn't her fault haha.

Mere exposure and ads would make someone hate every sports star beginning with Mantle. Wilt. MJ. Magic. Larry. Kobe. Peyton. Tom.

What sports star since the days of ads and capitalistic pursuits wasn't oversaturated bigly for years?

If anyone is to blame it is...sports fans. Like ourselves 😅 The content and ad producers will align with whatever folks show they want to consume.
