Recruiting Football Talk VII

Need prayers for my grandfather. He's in his early 80s now. He went to the ER Saturday night with pneumonia and they found out he has E. coli in his bloodstream.
That's terrible. I wish the very best for him and for your whole family.

Weren't you the one who posted the other day about a cough that does go away as a worrisome symptom? I was with my FIL this past weekend on a family trip and he has a cough like that. He has an appt with his PCP tomorrow. I spend a lot of time trying to pursuade him that he should not agree to leave there without a referral to a pulmonary specialist. PCP hasn't even looked at his lungs by xray or CT-scan and this is not his first trip.

Also, during TV's soliloquy last night he made a comment about "if you're a recruit and you're coming here to see our facilities and our program just to ask how much money we can give you don't waste your time or our time."

We had several top transfer portal targets on a recruiting visit for the Supers. Someone pissed him off 😂
Pitcher..... that said he was coming here then committed to Vandy and no showed his visit.

During Tony's beautiful postgame rant he mentioned Jared Dickey and the 2022 team saying (para), "Love em or hate em, that team got everyone talking about and watching college baseball."

Which prompted a thought with me...

Do you think the regionals and supers would all have been nationally televised now if it hadn't been for that 2022 team?

If it hadn't been the team that brought more energy and excitement and drama and flair to the sport? Stuff that permeated throughout CBB where we saw other teams doing celebrations and props and bat flips.

I don't remember when they started broadcasting all the games to be honest. I remember not too long ago the only college baseball games I'd see on ESPN were the CWS final series. Then around 2018 I remember all of Omaha being broadcasted, then a few years later the Supers and big regional matchups. Now it's like a little March Madness.
Yes. Most everything was already televised at that time.

Everyone watched but it wasn’t as enjoyable to watch, if that makes sense. TV has made the game more enjoyable to watch.

You had the “big bad Vols” team a couple years ago with Gilbert. They labeled us the villains. He’s made it fun for sure.

Kind of like when teams all played the same boring offense for years then everyone started to adopt and change to the spread offense. That’s when football became more fun. I think TV has made the game of baseball more fun and you see other teams adopting that fun/villain type team.

That team absolutely brought energy/excitement/drama/flair to the Tennessee fanbase and got more Tennessee fans paying attention to them. I think it had a more limited effect on the sport as a whole.

I do get the impression that college baseball is getting more popular, but Regionals/Supers/CWS has been nationally televised for a long time. It still is kind of hard to watch the college baseball regular season outside of some of the big weekend series. For example our opening series this year was against good teams but was on FloBaseball, a website that I didn't even know existed until the day before the season began. You have to have SECN+/ESPN+ to watch many of our games. It just has a fraction of the audience that football and basketball do.

Yes. Thankfully the grandfather I accidentally exposed is not terribly sick. But this one caught the "cold" too and went downhill this weekend. There's also supposedly an E coli outbreak right now.

My daughter's cough started getting much worse this weekend as well. My wife took her to an urgent care and they said her lungs sounded fine but they couldn't give a cough medicine because she's too young and wrote an antibiotic prescription because of the fluid in her inner ear (no infection) and her cough is gone after 2 days. My sister had the same experience after she was able to secure ABs. Someone else mentioned they were able to get antibiotics despite insistence from docs it was viral only and it cleared for them.

That 22 football team is like Bama football. A lot of people were watching just to see us lose.

Gilbert and Beck. I freaking loved that team.

I think that’s when everyone started REALLY tuning in. It was fun, everyone hated us.

Ive been going since Serrano, had free tickets his whole time here, and that **** was a snooze fest, not cause weren’t good but because it wasn’t fun. Felt like a military boot camp.

Wasn’t Wake or some other team this year labeled as the villains or had that “douchey” type team? I just think more and more kids/teams see that and are going with it.

It has been a great thing, you see how many opposing fans want us to lose or wanted other teams to lose.

The Serrano teams were smaller than some little league teams.

I'm always skeptical of the new "thing" but I tried on some on clouds and dang if they weren't fantastically comfortable for those couple minutes. Hopefully that lasts.

Also on sale and close enough to Tennessee colors to wear on game day!View attachment 647631
Good shoes I switched to Brooks, but both are great comfy tennis/running shoes

I think of Jimmy Cheek, Dave Hart, John Currie, and Beverly Davenport. Horrible leadership.

I think of the string of bad coaches across several sports: Cuonzo, Tyndall, Raleigh, Dooley, Butch, Cornbread. All in over their head.

Some names, I left off due to them trying their best and just unfortunately not working out: Serrano, Warlick, Harper

That era was miserable. We endured it, so we could become the gold standard of collegiate athletics.
You left Fulmer’s name off the list of horrible administrative leaders. Great coach, very poor AD
