Yeah it sucks, but it’s easier to run in. Think of what the track dudes wear then just add pads. Plus kids can get away with smaller pads as well due to the contact rules.

Tbh I don’t know how players before the early 2000s even ran in those big ass pads and shorts, definitely makes it more impressive

It wasn't hard to run in them at all. I don't think the short ones make a difference. I'm all for the lighter/thinner pads. I just don't like when they roll the pants up mid-thigh. It looks stupid to me.
