Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Prices are going up everywhere. Georgia just upped prices and said it had nothing to do with NIL. They'll be raising prices again.
I understand its an entertainment business, but we wont be paying those prices for kids to watch light shows, and listen to loud music to 11-12AM. That's for people with disposable income and young grandparents.

And what about the Pilot sponsorship? I heard kids were gonna rake in NIL from that?

They just keep piling on…
If the parties sort through the Settlement fine points, that sponsorship money basically cancelled out the $23 mil per UT was on the hook for.

Yeah, the timing of the announcement is a bit weird... but I'm assuming it's because the start of the fiscal year is October 1st so a good chance the change shows up first in -this- year's basketball ticket prices.

AD is making decisions and moves based on what is happening in the sport in general, not just on the field.

That should indicate that he's not using momentum to take advantage of fans, but staying ahead of trends (waves) ahead of when others will do it. To maintain an edge. This edge that Danny and our new leadership have been creating has helped us tremendously in Baseball, in Basketball, in Football.

Its obvious collegiate football is copying the nfl model to a degree. You have teams like the panthers, giants, and the browns (historically) that arent good. I wonder how much their season tickets and PSL’s price fluctuates when their team has multiple bad seasons. If I had to guess and I could be very wrong, but its hard to invision those prices dropping precipitously.
You can get panthers tickets for 5 bucks. Because they suck!!! You could get Tennessee tix for free a couple years ago if you knew anyone. My dad literally couldn't give tix away.

This debate is frustrating because to like one is to dislike the other. If you want a good deal and see us compete get some friends and buy season tickets together. Split the cost and the tix. If you just don't like any of the costs stay at home and don't worry so much about it.

I think the cost of an iPhone is ludicrous, but we had people openly discussing 1k phones when we all know a damn $200 phone will work. We had people gladly report they buy brand new cars cause they like to have nice cars while others of us said it's a waste. It is literally what makes America awesome. We all get to vote with our wallets every day.

Facts

Yeah it used to not affect me since I had friends in Knox. I still have one over there, but the lady isn’t as keen bout sleeping on the floor as a man is 😂
That's exactly right. I have not been able to justify spending for a Knoxville hotel for a gameday ever. I've been able to use points, but the hotels don't like that now.

Sometimes you can use it as an excuse to have a fun time in the mountains. If my kids were younger I'd totally just take everyone up to the mountains and rent a cabin for 2 weeks for Florida and Bama weeks. Would be 50% cheaper than two gameday weekends.

It's gone way up in the last 3 years though. I was able to buy single game tickets to the USCjr. game from the university in Heupel's first year. They were in section B (good seats). We could always stay at the Doubletree in Oak Ridge for $150/night. Both of those options are now gone just 3 years later.
I paid 70 for upper deck tickets to Ole Miss in 21..... Now you can't even see Kent St for that price.

There’s a 20k wait list for season tickets. Guess what is going to continue happening to prices until that number dwindles down?

If you have a limited product with a demand that exceeds your current capacity who should continue to increase your price until the demand equals your capacity.

Don’t like the prices? Don’t pay them.

$5 for season tickets? Thats what I was referring to. Single game tickets and resells are a different story, particularly reselle b/c thats on the individual and not the organization.

Arms race indeed. Part of the reason we’ve been able to bounce back under Heupel is the strength of our NIL through Spyre. We were one of the first to adopt that collective system and it paid off. Now we’re one of the first to setup revenue sharing. Of course, the NCAA may try their BS with us again but I’m not concerned about it. You have to be on the cutting edge to compete at a high level and we’re taking steps to do so.

We are now first for the collective system and revenue sharing. Tell me how much has it really helped? The same teams round out the top 10, and we usually finish 10-13.

So essentially, they want us to pay more for the same recruiting results.

Like you, and others have said the big programs will follow suit, so we really don’t have any major advantage over those teams….again.

Should have waited till we made a playoff run (results) and no one would be complaining about this.

It is all part and parcel of the same issue. Would anyone buy season tickets to UT games if the seats were reselling for $5....no
I sure hope no one would be complaining about ticket prices if they were because you cannot buy a fast food meal for that anymore.

I will shut up, but please just understand this is an issue at every good program. No one at UT is screwing you. We have literally the best leadership in this space hands down and the results are proving that.

FYI you can get tickets to OK for 168 each right now. That is another great deal for a top 15 matchup. Price any others.

I love it. The price of having an elite program. Some of yall need to study supply and demand. Some of yall wanted to be an elite program but didn’t want to pay the price it seems. Welcome to the no longer amateur world of college sports. Glad Tennessee is making its place among the elite.
Devils advocate: paying more doesn’t guarantee you will win at an elite level. See a&m the last few years, you gotta have the right people in place. And look at some of the nfl teams that overpay quarterbacks and free agents

I get it. I want the Vols to be elite. Just sucks that getting outpriced for my family seems to be the necessary evil. But hey, congrats on getting paid you college kids. Don’t spend it all on hookers and blow.

Would love to see those prices if the game was at Neyland….

Interesting wrinkle to the game will be how Nico handles the blitz on 3rd down. Venables is so good at dialing them up. Will be a good learning moment for Nico.
It is an interesting match up. Venables is smart enough to know if you blitz you better get him because he can scramble and run. I would expect him to use a spy at so point, but especially on 3rd down.
Nico’s ability to run and throwing accuracy on the run really separate him from other QB’s.

When have we ever landed the top QB's and rhe top tackle on subsequent classes? I'd let it play out, but we are clearly ahead of where we have been between the coaching, recruits and results. If football is not proof enough go stare at our NC in baseball or NCAA basketball appearances. Those didn't just happen because we have good coaches.
