Recruiting Football Talk VIII

It is all part and parcel of the same issue. Would anyone buy season tickets to UT games if the seats were reselling for $5....no
I sure hope no one would be complaining about ticket prices if they were because you cannot buy a fast food meal for that anymore.

I will shut up, but please just understand this is an issue at every good program. No one at UT is screwing you. We have literally the best leadership in this space hands down and the results are proving that.

FYI you can get tickets to OK for 168 each right now. That is another great deal for a top 15 matchup. Price any others.

$168

Now add the ticketmaster or stubbing fees.
Now add gas or plane ticket
Now add hotel cost
Now add multiple meals out to eat.

Not affordable at all.

I get it, Iā€™m looking beyond sports when it comes to more money, more money. At some point, you plateau or the industry crumbles. Theres only so much money in peopleā€™s wallet, especially when their salary isnā€™t increasing at the same rate as costs increases.

Oh it will regress. This is not sustainable.

Devils advocate: paying more doesnā€™t guarantee you will win at an elite level. See a&m the last few years, you gotta have the right people in place. And look at some of the nfl teams that overpay quarterbacks and free agents
Thereā€™s a balance. You canā€™t only pay/recruit money hungry kids. You now more than ever have recruit kids that fit what you want to do culturally and fit your scheme. Thus is why you donā€™t see Heupel going after kids with recruiting drama.

Paying less money than others will guarantee you won't win. Have to keep up to win.

When have we ever landed the top QB's and rhe top tackle on subsequent classes? I'd let it play out, but we are clearly ahead of where we have been between the coaching, recruits and results. If football is not proof enough go stare at our NC in baseball or NCAA basketball appearances. Those didn't just happen because we have good coaches.
JG was rated 1. He ended up sucking. Imagine paying him a ton of money.

The next year we got Trey Smith.

This is how businesses (yes, collegiate athletics too) brainwash people. Making people think their product is elite or more elite to the competitors b/c you are paying more for it. Phones and clothing is what comes to my mind first.
Nothing beats target tshirts for like $10 or whatever they are

This. We are landing better players and having better results than the last 2 decades. And we won a world series.

Itā€™s totally different now.

We werenā€™t paying 8mil to one player. We were never paying the players OUR money previously.
I still think youā€™re wrong here. We will continue to pay. Things will change sure, but the thing that wonā€™t change is the amount of UT fans going to football games.

I fly to ut games here and there. I actually like the travel component lol
I love to travel as well but airline prices arenā€™t exactly cheap themselves unless you fly an unreliable airline and I know from experience of relatives if your flight gets cancelled your SOL and have to rent a car and drive home from key west. Turns out they would have saved money just paying the extra for a ticket on a more reliable airline.

The irony of it all, is when it becomes a mess, the people currently in control arenā€™t responsible to clean up it. Look at the pathetic ncaa, we are partially in this mess because of the old heads who are now retired, living our their remaining years comfy.

Funny thing with supply and demand. For ever man that is fighting the man, there are 3 others waiting in line to buy your ticket.

Market freedom comes with a price and that price always goes up for items that people want, and we all want a winning football team, which then makes the price go up even more because we are getting what we want and demand.

I am going to end on this and get something productive done.

We are the best i can remember in decades.

We play a top 15 team on the road for a likely playoff spot Saturday.

We have the most electric offense in my life.

We have one of rhe most suffocating defenses i can remember.

We all have free will to participate in that journey however we like.

We should celebrate the good because we've already spent entirely too much time lamenting the bad in prior seasons.
