Recruiting Football Talk VIII

We quite literally did. Averages all look pretty close to me.

Which is my point!!! NIL hasn’t gotten us ahead of any team!! The coach is what helped.

89.48 in 2015, 89.50 in 2014. Heupel 2024 91.16, 2023 90.87. 2025 so far 91.59 with NCAA looming above. That’s not close at all imo. To each their own

Brother they use NIL to buy HS recruits. They don't use the transfer portal because Dabo is stubborn. They also got molly whopped by a UGA team that barely squeaked past UK. Both of those teams actively use the portal. You do your own math on that.
Just saying if it was an if advantage we would be a little higher last season and not on par with Clemson.

Speaking of UGA. They suck in explosives without NFL hall of fame tight ends on their team. By far our best chance to beat them since Kirby got there. Also UK knew their plays. I think it helped a lot they had two high profile UGA transfers. UK was literally pointing where the ball was going. Important to remember since Mincey is there. We will need to mix up.
I honestly think Bama may be tougher this year than UGA. I would not have said that before the season started.

I’m talking about compared to the teams they are recruiting against.

It’s the same back then, as it is now. Where is the advantage?

Why is the UT logo the only one that is not the appropriate color for the school? On3 hates UT? That is the only reasonable conclusion we can draw.

2015: 6th in average recruit in the SEC
2024: 5th in average recruit in the SEC
2025: 5th in average recruit in the SEC

Where’s the difference? So pay more for 1 spot?

We should have waited till we made a playoff appearance before doing this. I wouldn’t have had any gripe about it. Prove the product on the field is worth paying more for again.

Yeah, Bama players are just adjusting to a new coach they aren't suddenly untalented or bad players.

Georgia is adjusting again to attrition as well as losing staff and as someone else pointed out Bobo ain't it.

Not sure if it's been posted, or sorry if it has...

TLDR:

They have a lot of size on the DL and LB. They aren't fast.

He says to have any shot, they have to play a 5 man box with zone coverage to stop the run, and basically pray their way through the passing game. i.e. Dedicate DL and 2-3 LBs to stop the run, and the LBs can help in passing on pass plays.

He may be right, but that sounds like suicide. I don't think he mentioned our wide splits once, and that will prevent the LBs from helping in the run all that much. They'll need to basically declare for the run. And the zone folks will be schemed wide to prevent run help.

The more I hear, the more confident I become.

Sounds like a game where our TE room can feast, if the LBs are too slow to hang with them they'll be used in shorter routes and crossing as underneath options if Nico isn't getting time.

Thats always been my biggest gripe with collegiate athletics. Football/Basketball funding the other plethora of sports, its not a sustainable business model. I get having a few olympic sports, but not so many sports where those sports are millions in red yoy.
You can thank the abomination that is Title IX for that.

Sounds like the LBs are big, not necessarily fast. He showed a play where the LBs and secondary in zone were too slow to catch up to a Tulane drag screen, and they ran it for 19 when they needed 20. Good news, OU stopped them on third. Bad news, they were out-paced by Tulane.

I am gathering this is the recievers coming out party. No need to bring more guys to the box when that is their preferred base. Just my 2 cents. I think the slot feasts.

Did you really just cherry pick one single class of an entire decade prove a point that we have been recruiting consistently at a high level?

This guy is just not considering how many careers have been ended on extra points plays....there's a lot of carnage on extra points....

My opinion is that Tennessee is making a point. No time is taken off the clock, but the delay still helps our defense.

If a stink is made, then the opponents fake injuries to stall our offense will also be called out.

The changes Heupel has made to this offense has made it far more multiple. If we play teams that are susceptible to finesse, we'll beat them that way. If we go up against power defenses, we have schemes for that with the TEs now. I genuinely think that in a few years, some of the SEC teams have shown him some weaknesses in his offense, and he's recruited and schemed to close those gaps. There's little way to know for sure yet since we have played some patsies, but I suspect this offense will only continue to amaze as it continues to be revealed.

I'm not an economist, but it's economics. The market will adjust itself if consumers stop paying for it. We are riding good times, and they have demand. The interesting decisions will come when demand is low for poor product, but I hope that is a long time from now.
Correct.

How long is the wait list for season tickets right now? Of course they will raise prices - demand is outstripping supply.

It’s the same class I was using in my previous post.

And that’s kind of the whole point? We shouldn’t be 5th in the SEC if we had major advantages.

You can pay more, I don’t care what you do with your money. I’ll wait till we make the playoffs before I start paying even more.

2014: 6th in SEC.
