Recruiting Football Talk VIII

To Nico’s defense on the last play, I just think he didnt realize the clock was out and was trying to get a 1st for 1 more play. Hes a freshman and will make mistakes, and that is the difference between Nico and Milton, who was in his 4th year of cfb when he did that

Meh. I think running was his only option, the OL held up for a while but no one got open. He went out when he realized he couldn't get what we needed. That's all. WRs weren't great tonight and to add to it Nico didn't always see them. Our interior OL is a problem *BUT* our playcalling stressed that OL past the point of breaking. You can't repeatedly refuse to throw unless it's 3rd and long, especially not when your running game was going nowhere early on.

Not being able to take a man one on one and win consistently is a problem. And it was more 3-2 than 3-3
It has nothing to do with taking a man one on one, thats not our scheme, with that and our back being off set, they have the gap we want covered.

Its like why Chip Kelly struggled once he got to the NFL, the running back giving away every run play is a problem. We barely run outside zone, and we dont ever really run an outside counter or toss. So basically they have 2 gaps to defend on every play.

And what in HAYUL is wrong with our O Tackles? That last drive, rushed three, and one quick spin move and they were in Nico’s grill. They’re not very good.
This o line is not good, it's holding the team and this QB from developing. It's been an issue. Honestly it's time for Heupel to let friends go. It's not getting better, it's worse than last year and the year before. We're tending in wrong direction.

This team sucks. Glad they admitted their lackadaisical attitude so I can do the same the rest of the year. And I can save money by not giving anymore to the NIL fund.

But please continue to increase the price of tickets.

@JacketVol brother come back Monday with clear thoughts.you know damn well this game should have never been close and it was only close because of the play calling…defense was getting stops all night.it was a low scoring game for a reason both sides have a good defense.
I agree Just on the last play, you can’t do that. You just can’t. It’s horrible for your last play inside the red zone to be running out of bounds. BUT, should’ve never came to that.

This game is on banks probably moreso on Heuple. We still don't have a secondary that can cover granny clampet. His defense gave up the game winning drive against their backup QB with the QB not having to throw a pass except for a screen. Ive given him credit this year for his good defenses. Im going to be critical when his defense sucks. They sucked tonight.
Dude, his defense gave up 19 points. Our offense is averaging in the 50’s. Of Heup is calling the offense then it is on him, if Halzle is calling the offense then it is on him. A total offensive wet fart.

Not to start your argument with Met again, but I think it has to do with run fits.
It 100% is, and taking away the deep ball. The dlinemen are crashing the gaps which in zone runs (90% what we run) will automatically occupy the 5 olinemen because they can’t get to the 2nd level. Leaving the backers there to clean up. There’s a reason our power runs have been a alottt more successful than zone runs this year. Having 6 DB’s allows them to have 2 guys deep while pressing their CB’s which eliminates deep ball and the WR screens

Huepel is gonna have to adjust or we will struggle bad on offense again

Heupel seems pissed off pretty bad in the presser, but more concerning is he seemed like he didn’t have an answer…lots of we’ll learn from this, need to get better, etc…

Nico is good. Nico is young. Nico
maaaaay be overrated. Too early to tell. He needs more time. I like him. His potential is through the roof. He did screw up quite a bit tonight. But his OL and WRs did not pick him up. Neither did Heupel or Halzle or whomever calls plays.
Everyone saying throw the program away and yada yada needs to chill. This sucks and I’m outraged but things can get better. We had so much worse the past 20 years. Being where we are now after the Pruitt fiasco was a feat in itself.

Mhmmmmm. Thats the counterpoint against Met.... Its not as simple as block this guy, its a flow, and we barely run outside, so they know they basically know they have to stop 2 gaps on every run play.

One thing ive complained about since day 1. Heup doesnt let his QB pull it enough. backside defenders crash hard and we never pull it.

They gave up 16 points. We should win every game where that happens and should’ve won this one
Maybe, but arkansas should have had more. We were extremely lucky. Maybe you like a defense that gives up tons of yardage. That bend but don't break. It is going to bite you eventually and it did tonight. Drove the length of the field and really had too much time on the clock left. What was it 3 plays?

We will never have a championship level defense as long as he's here. Bobby Patrino abused him tonight. And, there defensive coordinator abused heuple just as bad. Totally out classed from a coaching standpoint. Hopefully it's an anomaly with Heup.

The sad part was this was probably our best chance. Our mediocre SEC OL is gone and good ole Glen has recruited a bunch of duds.

Better hope Sanders is ready day 1 and that we can fine some decent interior OL
