Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Give Mike Matthews some run. The rest of our receiver room inspires no confidence.

Thornton played pretty good.
Thornton has been good. Bru and Squirrel are hurt/banged up now. Brazzel has been underwhelming thus far. I didn’t expect him to be a Biletnikoff winner but expected more out of him thus far.

Maybe, but arkansas should have had more. We were extremely lucky. Maybe you like a defense that gives up tons of yardage. That bend but don't break. It is going to bite you eventually and it did tonight. Drove the length of the field and really had too much time on the clock left. What was it 3 plays?

We will never have a championship level defense as long as he's here. Bobby Patrino abused him tonight. And, there defensive coordinator abused heuple just as bad. Totally out classed from a coaching standpoint. Hopefully it's an anomaly with Heup.
If giving up 19 points is bad in today’s football we’re never winning a championship anyways. Especially when you have an offenses genius. 19 points should get you a win 100 out of 100 times with heupel

Dude, his defense gave up 19 points. Our offense is averaging in the 50’s. Of Heup is calling the offense then it is on him, if Halzle is calling the offense then it is on him. A total offensive wet fart.
He gave up the game winning drive with their backup QB in like 3 plays. They moved the ball at will. Fortunately arkansas struggled in the red zone and went for it on 4th several times and they missed a field goal. We're fortunate they didn't run us.

Finally. I am impressed. Thanks

Mhmmmmm. Thats the counterpoint against Met.... Its not as simple as block this guy, its a flow, and we barely run outside, so they know they basically know they have to stop 2 gaps on every run play.

One thing ive complained about since day 1. Heup doesnt let his QB pull it enough. backside defenders crash hard and we never pull it.
Yeah he really needs to let them pull it more if we really want to take full advantage of our qb and have the defense on it heels consistently.

If we don’t let them score on the last drive then they kick a FG with 3 seconds left on the clock.

Who was the last guy with the ball in his hands???

He is young and there will be growing pains but its his fault and I bet he will be the 1st to admit it. He didn't play very well tonight was off and inaccurate.
He was of because he couldn't trust the o line and play calling to keep him clean. He's a young QB who was afforded no favors from coaching or o line tonight. He was set up to fail.

The Arkansas coaching staff saw the deficiencies and seized on it all night. I saw those same issues over the last three weeks.

He thought he could have it for another play and was very close. There wasn't a good play to be made on that that last one. The issue is coaching and o line..... There wasn't a QB on roster that could have done better.

Quit blaming the the young inexperienced QB and blame the experienced units that failed him all night.

Or blame the QB if you want..... Just be prepared to never get a decent one again.

I blame Erik Ainge for this loss, too saying he wanted to see how Nico would respond being put in a situation where we are down. Hey @briancrice don’t let him out of this on the show Monday lol.

Oh would you look at that. Like I’ve been saying, teams are running a different defense in order to stop our offense. We have to adjust and until then we’ll continue to struggle

That is part of it but NC State also ran a version of it which slowed us down at the start but I figured we already knew how to scheme around it now.

It’s called complimentary football though. Squirrel gives up field position and then Ross has an ok punt. They started on their 41.

Exactly. If football was that simple every single team would be rushing for 200, 250+ yards a game. Teams don’t put 7 guys in the box, heck it’s getting rare to even see 6 guys in the box every play. The days of a base 3-4 and 4-3 are long gone

Yea I agree, gotta keep the DE honest

Yep. He helped with game planning and adding wrinkles. Hazle doesn’t seem to be there yet.
Yeah, I think he played a “bad cop” role too that might be missing from the team.

We also miss Hendon’s demeanor and leadership, but Hendon was 40 when he played here, so maybe Nico will develop that with time.
