Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Have to reset our expectations for this team.

Take the 30,000 foot view. Talented freshman QB. Old but thin OL. Dominant defense. We will likely be in every game, but just like tonight, a lot of SEC teams can upset us.

6-6 heads are rolling.
7-5 is absolutely unacceptable.
8-4 a big disappointment but not unreasonable.
9-3 should be expected.
10-2 is playoffs and exceeds expectations.
11-1 very little chance of happening. Mostly bc of the OL.

We have loaded the cupboard with talent, but we have slacked on the OL. Blame whatever or whoever you want for that, but it's a glaring problem and has been for two years now.

If the OL makes huge strides next year then I think we have a higher ceiling in 2025.
Zero faith the OL suddenly gets better next year. We lose our starting C and Elarbee has shown to me that he is not developing these players. If this doesn’t change along with play calling (which is heavily affected by OL play) then we may want to buckle in tightly.

With playoff expansion, football is getting closer to basketball and baseball. In terms of one loss isn't the end of the world. Even if you don't win the conference or play perfect, you can still angle for the post season and make a run. You maintain the possibility of a magical season for a lot longer, and you can take some shots along the way.

We've seen Barnes and the boys lose inexplicably. We've seen the BaseVols lose games we knew they'd win 99 other times.

Even just in football, everyone is going to lose. Everyone. Some will be worse than others. All of them will sting for the fans of those teams.

It's sports. It just be like that sometime.

Even still, it is hard to ignore or shake off some of the concerns that I have following that game. Not just about one player or unit or staff member. Not just about one possession or half or game.

Luckily a lot of other teams and players around the country have their own questions to answer. And other teams will eat it along the way too.

I hope our coaches and players come out next week and get this season and Nico era back on track.

I'm not out on Heupel, but I will say that he has to beat teams that adjust to what he's doing. We were warmed early on about defenses adjusting to him. I'm afraid we are seeing this play out in real time, especially with a subpar o line.

Yards equal points. It did tonight. He couldn't stop a back up qb when he had to. We never went run heavy defense the whole drive. Patrino abused him.
Just out of curiosity, do you purposefully misspell names or do you actually not know how to spell them? It's really apparent when you repeatedly misspell our own coach's name as "Heuple."

Also it’s time for Heup to tweak the offense and add more than three routes for the WRs. Defenses really only have to worry about us running hitches, go routes and quick screens. With an occasional post here and there. Time to throw some post corners, out and ups etc. That has always bothered me with his offense, the WRs aren’t asked to really route a DB up. And STOP running that play where only one WR runs a route while the other two just jog off the ball and stop smh.

He did with hooker unless hooker called his own number on those plays but Nico is faster and has better agility than hooker..so I have no clue why he won’t allow Nico to do it more.if he would have done that a couple of times throughout the game.the defense would have backed off and respected Nico running the ball…we never kept the defense honest the whole game and that’s the difference..

I’ve not seen one thing implemented in this offense that’s changed since Alex left.so in my mind JH is just running what he has in the playbook hoping it works and he’s not been creative at all…I just hope it’s not a situation where Alex golesh was the creative mastermind behind our offensive play calling assuming the whole time it was Josh…if that’s the case then we are on borrowed time with fools gold..all things considered
Heres my thing on Golesh.

Ive watched a lot of South Florida since he left. He runs the offense completely different. He runs the QB way more and speed option like 10 times a game. I think some of the run game creativity was Golesh.

Who’s sister?😬

Most of that is true! I agree

Nico missed on the deep play that was wide open, missed on some more that were
On him.

Everyone is to blame, let’s not leave anyone out.
It was a s**t show on Offense except for maybe Sampson.

Pretty much like last week
He wasn't great, not he want the biggest issue

Wasn’t talking about their careers lol

I was saying Heupel hitting on Hooker was like Barnes hitting on Knecht
I like you Trippie, but not even seeing this in the slightest. May just be too grumpy from the loss. Heupel didn’t even recruit Hooker. He was a Pruitt guy that fell in his lap. Hell, he didn’t even start him and wanted Joe in 2021.

Our guy Barnes brought in DK and helped make him into the guy he currently is. Just annoys me that Heup and Barnes even mentioned in the same sentence at this moment in time lol

Did Kitselman drop the ball on the last drive that would have put us inside the 10?

He oussed out scared to get hit it appeared to me

He was thrown a 100mph fastball for no reason. That pass was on Nico. He could have easily taken juice off that throw.
Nico sailed it over Miles' head. Miles lept for it, but no chance.

Very next play & same route for Kitselman...he was wide open for the 1st & maybe 6...but Nico threw to Nimrod & #3 deflected it

These games sting the most because they give us a reality check and really kill the hopes that we’re a playoff team.

You lose an insanely winnable game where you’re playing a freshman backup and just **** down your legs multiple ways.

Have any of the offensive portal guys been what they were Heuped up to be?

Really?? Kent st, Chatt or NC st production really is meaningless.

Have they done anything against good teams?
Thornton and Brazzell are good. Kitselman was solid through 4 games.

I've thought this offense missed him since he left, it's Helps offense not be was calling it, and some call it better than others.

Miles alligator armed it

Okay, the fact that they ended up turning the player into something most fans didn’t.

Didn’t think Hooker would be that good and I didn’t think Knecht would be a first rounder

That better? Lol
