Recruiting Football Talk VIII

POSSOM THOUGHTS:

So......

Back to back road games in the SEC is tough. Oklahoma was always the game circled this season and we won it. The whole team was just off tonight. Missed blocks, missed tackles, and missed opportunities. I'm not blaming the refs but that was the same head ref we had for the UCONN game last year. I looked at that game thread and we fussed a lot about missed holding calls. Us having a bye week and playing that sorry is very concerning. Maybe this will refocus the whole team because we're better than how we played tonight. It looked like we tried to sleep walk against a pretty good Arkansas team.

Player wise..... it looked to me like Squirrel got in Nico's ear about getting him the football because that was by far the most targets he's had all season, especially that 1st half. Lance Heard continues to be the most disappointing transfer. Nico is a RS freshman and I believe in him but that last play was dumb.

The defense wasn't horrible. It was really good to see Pearce finally get going. The Arkansas WRs made spectacular plays when they needed to. Greene didn't throw interceptions, like I thought he would.

We've got floriduh coming in. It's at night and it's at home and it should..... should be a beat down. I chose to believe we win by 3 TDs next week.

And finally.......

Remember RF regulars, it could be a lot worse....at least we didn't lose to vanderbilt. 😏

So now you are changing your tune and saying there wasn't a "good" play to be made when you've been saying there wasn't a play to be made at all..... sounds like there was a play to be had that didnt involve runningout of bounds...glad we are on the same page now.

I agree the oline and coaching staff did him no favors but he was indecisive with the ball tonight and it showed throughout the game and on the last play.

I'm sorry but he is a starting QB w/ an 8 mill price tag. That will always have performance expectations.... one of those being not running out of bounds on the last play of the game. Something Joe was crucified for. To say he can't be criticized is idiotic

Sure he is young and there will be growing pains. He's not s 25yr old Hendon Hooker with a lot of ball experience under his belt.

Your nieve if you think he can't be criticized or blamed.
No, that's what I've said all along. It was another play out a ring and a prayer. I've been consistent. GTFOH!

Yeah let’s not get too down on Heup though. He’s given us hope again. I haven’t had this much hope for the Vols since I was in 9th grade(07). It’s a new era of football. Let’s see if he adapts this year and the next few years. I have faith in him.
We are the same age? Wild lol

I’m not too down on him , I’ll give him credit for what he’s done, but if anyone doesn’t have a few questions about certain things then they’re just ignoring the bad.

Wonder why we don't run Nico
Like design runs. That could help open up the offense.
Made a post about Nico’s rushing vs Hookers rushing for the first 5 games. Hooker had 3-4 more rushing attempts per game….so I agree, he needs more designed run plays.

It does seem like Nico has the Hooker blueprint just without the open playbook that Hooker had. I guess we could also say Hooker was much better at improvising.

Yeah, last year I wouldnt have believed anything because of Joe

Id have to look at what Kirby did, but honestly id just chalk it up to Kirby being a top 3 DC maybe even top 2 and not 2.

But theres too much out there this year. It’s something Heup has to figure out.
It’s just happening far too often now. Anyone that deny’s it is a buffoon. I still think Heup is a good offensive coach (terrible with TO’s), I think we smack UF next week and have a close game with Bama.

Oh Kirby is amazing for sure, i don’t remember where I read it but I read Kirby had a defensive analyst specifically for Tennessee that watched and game planned all off season for that game. I’ll have to see if I can find it. They hardly ever had more than 5 in a box vs us. Lots of 3-2 with a star, even 4-1. Press man on the outside with 2 deep safeties.

That’s the most important part to stopping a Heup offense. Press man on the outside with 2 deep safeties, Dline has to crash the gaps. Pitt ran a lot of cover 1 and cover zero which had some success at times but the 2 deep safeties work a lot better

Was this from Hooker 2021 or hooker 2022?
