I still think we miss Golesh.

So true. The undervaluing of Golesh by some on this board was surprising to me. He took Heup's concepts and applied them in the development of players and the game plans.

If Arky kicks FG's in the first half instead of going for it on 4th down several times - they beat us by two scores. We had tremendous 4th down effort on D.

They played better than us as a team. We have the better overall talent. But we had one guy blow his responsibility on both sides of the ball too many times to win the game. We had dumb play calling frequently. Nico's inexperience showed frequently. All stuff that needs cleaned up.

It is still all there for the taking. Just need to execute well and win as a team. This season every team in CFB is obviously flawed so it will be about playing well enough to get in and how you finish.

That was definitely the worst coaching job we have seen. Is Nico overrated or has our play calling not been as good since Golesh departed? We blamed it all on Milton last year but it’s starting to look very familiar. I’ll wait to pass judgement after the Florida game but these last 2 games haven’t looked promising.

So even Heup saw there wasn't really a play to be made.... Just a wing and a prayer. The kid thought he could have another second.... I'm not going fault him for that..... And if you think Heup would you're a fool and completely misrepresenting what Heup said.

They go over that scenario in practice when they practice end of the game scenarios. Nico knows that he only has time for a quick pass to the sideline if we are going for the field goal or a throw into the end zone. The kid screwed up.

Here’s the other thing about scheming against this enigma defense…IF WE WOULD RUN THE BALL OUTSIDE, AND LET THE QB KEEP THE BALL, the defense wouldn’t be such an enigma!

Slept on it. Cooled down. Still landing on the fact that I’m starting to doubt Heupel. Two games in a row this offense has been utter butt slaw. I think Heupel was just laying some coach speech about pulling it back a tad vs OU. Heupel knows he’s hamstrung offensively with a weak arse OL and a QB that is starting to look like he has stage fright, which tbh is a coaching travesty at this point.

I see 3 straight Ls incoming and then a thrashing by UGA to finish with 4 losses. I wouldn’t be surprised to see UK or Candy play us close either. We are not good at all offensively.

If Heupel doesn’t beat UF and beat one of Bama/UGA to finish 10-2 he’s gonna start draining some of that good will he’s built up. Compound that with DW unveiling ticket increases a tad bit premature and you may start to see the wheels fall off of this thing from a fan support perspective. There ain’t no way those increases are going to sustain if this is the product laid out before us when it’s the deepest, most talented team Heupel has ever had. I think OU was fools gold. I think the Arky game is who we actually are unfortunately.

Indeed. And the question becomes what adjustments can Heupel make to fix it? I think it’ll be hard because of the offense Heupel runs, a lot of people don’t realize his passing plays are majority choice routes, and a lot of RPO’s. That means the defense is literally dictating what our QB and WR’s do. I think running more power runs and 12 personnel will help a lot

1. Give Nico more chances to pull it on the option.
2. More outside runs with the RB or jet sweeps or those little pop passes.

Exactly, individuals actually believe standing on the sidelines and taking reps in practice last year that Nico should be Pat MaHomes or Peyton Manning this year.

Nico struggled in his first stressful situation when game was close, it happens to the best of them.

1. Give Nico more chances to pull it on the option.

12 personnel is to protect Nico while he grows.

I don’t remember Tua or Caleb Williams needing this protection, however. He’s either great and all world or he’s not. Time will tell.

Yes it was just poor all around. It’s like FL last year. You know we are losing to a marginal at best team and coming off a bye week makes it worse.
