Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Siap but Shaun Sparks on Facebook says Squirrel has a broken collarbone. Says that Bru has a couple of broken bones in his hand and a possible rib fracture. Says Eason will have an MRI tomorrow to determine extent of his knee injury. Says he couldn't put weight on it.
Testing the wr and DL depth early, we have guys at DL but still trying to find playmakers at WR

I’m ready for Mike Matthews

we’ll see what Mike Matthews has soon

Elarbee needs to git. I don’t see Heupel doing it though.

We are in big trouble next year whenever we lose Cooper and Spraggins and have to rely on freshmen or current depth. Utu was going to be a potential plug and play option and he’s also gone.

something was very off about last night on the OL. moreso than in the past. re watching our first few drives and its like our OL were not on the same page at all. my guess is we lack a consistent 5 across the line and that makes it hard to get into rhythm week after week

that illegal downfield call messed us up so bad. we were going to score that drive and it just pummeled us back. coach slowed things down after that drive big time and it became our identity. hard to dig out of that hole
Heard did not play a game with a bad leg so you know he did not practice on one and our guys struggled pass blocking one on one. It was a mess. Run blocking was not that much better compared to other games.

The long 3rd down scramble, by the Arkansas back up QB, on their last scoring drive, when their WR was holding our DB held big time, was the one that stood out to me. That was the most blatant one I remember. It was 15 -20 yds down field, nobody around them but 2 officials, and they didn't even reach for a flag. That was the ball game right there. (I think it was McCoy being held)

It was McCoy. I don't know how they missed that. Out in the open field. The Qb ran past them while McCoy was being held. Just terrible

That play decided the game. McCoy makes that tackle and it's a long 4th down for Arkansas.

It's inexcusable but the SEC won't do anything about it. The officials have zero accountability for any of their calls/actions.

OL from the portal will be the biggest need.

And yes, I agree Elarbee needs to go stat.

The refs were not good but like the old saying goes never put yourself in that position to where you leave it up to them.

Hey VN we could use some prayers from my son. He is a police officer in Nashville and was forced to use deadly force Friday night. He had only been with the force a year and one day. I will not share the video for content reasons, but if any of you are in LE or similar fields I would like your feedback. Just type in October 4 officer involved shooting Nashville in YouTube. My stomach has been in knots. I am just glad he is still with us. Great kid, graduated APSU Suma Cum Laude. He is a mess as you can imagine.
Just from that video as a former cop, this shouldn't be much of an issue tbh. Definitely at least appears to be a good shoot. He was clearly ordered to drop the gun multiple times, refused multiple times, began to raise it, and was shot.

Yep.... because the SEC refs are the shadiest group of individuals in sports.

Here's what blows my mind...... part time referees in a sport that generates millions/billions (counting TV money) of dollars makes is indefensible. They hardly ever list the officials names anymore during the game. The leagues should hire, train, manage, pay, and discipline professional officials. The teams and fans are the ones getting screwed over with "not good" refs.

*I think it's by design so a game and outcome can be controlled. There's too much money on the line for it to be legitimately called both ways every time. That's why some games officiating looks lopsided, it's because it is.

To me, there is a difference between guys just missing shots (which happens a lot, yes) and the game plan being poor and the team looking unprepared. I can’t say there has ever been a game under Barnes where the team just looked unprepared and that there was no game plan. There was no game plan last night. None. Heupel had no idea what he was trying to do.
The tournament loss vs Ok St where every single piece of data and common wisdom said Vols would win and cover. They came out flat and lost

Not surprised on Squirrel. I really wanted to see Matthews take his spot during the Bye Week. I’d prefer to work him over Nimrod and Webb at this point but Heupel probably wants to RS him 🙄. Nimrod and Webb are serviceable but Matthews I think has the ability to take the top off.

Eason didn’t look good at all. Hoping it’s not season-ending but fear it may be.

**** game, but if it leads to the team realizing they haven’t done **** yet despite what the headlines read then it could be a turning point.

Bama & Georgia are beatable, but we have to take it one game at a time. Need to see the training wheels taken off Nico, run our tempo and get back to trying to score every drive.

Yo serious question do we just not do that pop pass play to the TE anymore that hooker was so good at? I swear we don’t attack the seams with the TEs at all anymore and we barely did to start with.

Was watching a little bit of the highlights from yesterday and the thought came up.
Exactly. Watch the Bama game from ‘22, the TE pop pass was money early in the game and opened the run game and deep routes to Hyatt.
