Recruiting Football Talk VIII

We failed to do well on offense because they stuffed our run with a light box. They did it as well as UGA has. Honestly it might be rhe best since UGA. Oklahoma and NC state tried, but failed. UGA is the next team that likely could do the same. Their D line is a notch worse though. Bama has struggled in this area. USC and KY will try and we will see. Both have veteran lines. 9-3 won't be crazy if Nico and the O line don't step up.

Any time we look stupid this is usually the culprit. Our recievers are running into lots of coverage, our QB is passing or running into it.
Arkansas DL was garbage until they played Tennessee and all of a sudden they look like the 85’ Bears, Nebraska blackshirts and the Saban Bama defenses from 08-17’. The OL has got to figure something out. Clearly pathetic performance. Receivers had many one on ones and the only time they got open downfield (FINALLY) Nico overthrew it.

Only a few minutes in but Locked on Gators host seems to believe while the gators played better, they dominated ucf because ucf played so bad.

“Florida is still not a good football team…”

So i was watching a podcast this morning and yall let me know if yall agree.
1. They need to let Nico scramble more if nothing is open. Reason is they are scared he will get hurt.
2. Nico needs to just throw it and let his wide receivers be play makers and stop holding the ball.
3. Run the what is it 12 man offense and pound the rock.
4. Let a couple of the younger offensive lineman in the game to see what they can do.
5. Heupel needs to switch the offense up tremendously because defenses know how to play us now.

It was more but that's all I can remember lol, but what do you guys think. Do you think we lose players to the portal if they don't get no run, lose commits. I know it's one game too but we definitely gotta respond and asap.

Wouldn’t be surprised to lose guys to the portal and I wouldn’t be surprised if we lost commits.

Just how it is. I’m also still in doom mode.

it's a mess.

facts: we have an offensive guru

we are getting outschemed, and out coached by much lesser men

we have talent.

nico is a talent.

what were doing isn't working.

play whomever, whstever it takes. Right noe I dont see Campbell or Heard being the answer. Man, how have we not developed anyone on offense?

So *if* we lose to a bad UF team and Billy Bob beats us for a 2nd year in a row, what is going to be the sentiment?

A win against a BAD, BAD, BAD UF team doesn’t say much. A loss, however, will speak volumes about where this team’s at.

I think we've seen a gradual decrease in play calling and a pattern of regression in last two games. Contrast that against the hype, and you get frustration.

1. Nico is obviously allowed to scramble so that's a dumb take.
2. Nico is protecting the ball. He needs to anticipate more sure but don't throw it into heavy coverage
3. Why 2 TEs? Why not more lead blockers. Sounds like someone just using popular terminology just to sound smart
4. I can agree with that. The tackle (forgot his name) did well at Oklahoma
5. He has changed it drastically. That's why they're so out of sorts imo. Need to go back to what they're good at

Yeah that’s why I was curious. We should expect him to get better but tonight was discouraging for sure.

Maybe he’s scared to let it rip like Hendon would
I think that the OU game rattled Nico. Maybe he chalked it up to the two starting OTs were out. When they got back in the arkansas game and performed worse than the backups, that again rattled him. I think that I read that Karic rated the highest of all the OL. Higher than Mays and Spraggins. That would be great if he scored higher than 70. Now honestly, I don’t know if that’s on a 100 point scale, but if it is, our best graded OL got a 70. 😳
Hard to be confident as a QB …

I would start with the 2 TE sets in every game until the OL can handle business. Short quick passes until they all get their confidence back. JMO

Thoughts on Saturday: Offensive line was awful, Lance Heard in particular. I was shocked at how bad the o-line looked. Defense was not bad except for playing soft zone vs a backup qb in the last four minutes, we should have stacked the box. Nico was off, probably because of lack of protection, misread several blitzes and should have taken more check downs.
Arkansas did several things totally out of the character for what they have done this year. I watched several Arkansas games and Green never threw the ball like he did Saturday. there were several balls that should have been picked but Lady luck was smiling on him. The Arkansas o-line played 10x better than in any of their other games, we should have played less straight up rushing four and more eight on the line and dropping out and disguising blitzes.
Our backs are now firmly against the wall we have to beat both Alabubba and Georgia and we will find out a lot about this team. Hope they stop reading their press clippings.

This loss is also on you orange britches people. We always play better (and look better) in road games with stormtroopers. Just saying. Burn the orange pants already lol
It has absolutely nothing to do with the uniform.
With that being said, I don’t like the white/orange cleats.

Personally, I’d rather see the team each wear the cleats that each individual player prefers. I personally would be in the old school black cleats. Just makes sense for each player to wear what they trust. Gives them confidence to make the cuts needed to make the plays.

I think that makes 2 games in a row with the opponents not getting a holding call.
Egregious! Pearce got turned sideways and the head ref was looking right at him. If I was Josh, I would get in the head ref ear and let him have it at the first obvious holding call this week and get a flag thrown on me.

Honestly it would have been better if Lance Heard was hurt again this week, he was God awful.

Ya know what helps beat these 3-3-5 & 3-2-6 defenses?

Running our tempo & snapping the ball before they get a chance to get setup. The OL sitting in stance for 15-20 seconds every play is leading to more false starts and late reactions to DL pressure. When we’re controlling the snap they get set & then explode off the line.
You know what else would beat it? Running the football to the edges.

Nico needs to work on pre-snap reads and he needs to work on being a more vocal leader on the field. I just think he is too laid back.

Those are the two things that separate Hooker and Nico.

Also, I don’t remember what poster it was, but I thought it was interesting that they pointed out that Nico performed better in 7on7 than he did during his HS career. So I went and looked at his stats

From the stats I found online, he was definitely a good decision maker considering he had 50 TDs to only 2ints, but the 60% passing is something to be concerned about.

If you noticed his last 3 games, Nico is throwing 61%, 2 TD / 0ints.

I just think Nico needs to be more aggressive and I think Heupel needs to find some way to get that aggressiveness out of him. Needs to quit worrying about “taking his foot of the gas” or some other ******** excuse. DONT EVER TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS, I DONT CARE IF YOU HAVE 2001 HURRICANES AS YOUR DEFENSE. LET THE KID THROW AND GAIN MORE CONFIDENCE.

Everything is there and you can see it. The kid is this 🤏 close.

Rant over. Love you Heupel and Nico…now go undefeated the rest of the year. Thanks.

I understand running the offense intentionally so as not to get the qb hurt. What I don’t understand is handcuffing the qb to keep him from making mistakes. Let the kid learn. Let him show his god given talent. Take the training wheels off the offense unless you’re fine with missing the playoffs.

My 2 cents
