Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Any thoughts or theories on our offensive struggles being a road problem?
I don't think it is a theory that we struggle offensively on the road. It has been a fact since last year. It is directly the cause of increased penalties on the road and lack of explosive plays.

The road game struggles seem worse at night, which is when crowd noise is going to be a little more intense. The only teams we have beaten at night on the road under Heupel are Kentucky (2x) and Vandy (1x). And OU this year.

I want the noon road games back where the crowd is half asleep or just arriving and we're already up three TDs.

what about lack of an effective game plan?

'up the gut' isn't effective

So I stayed up till 5:30am in France to watch us lose Saturday night. I was bewildered. Then I went to Normandy and Omaha Beach Sunday and was quickly reminded how little sports matter. Sports have ups and downs. We must not let it consume us. I’d post more pics but keeps telling me files are too large while on the plane.

Yeah and it starts with Jimmy HC, Joe OC,
Jimmy OLC.
They had 2 weeks to prepare the Jimmy’s and Joes on the field and they looked unprepared.
Do you have children? I'll bet they always do exactly what you tell them to, right? What specifically did the staff do wrong or is it all generalities? How would you have prepared the team?
Personally I saw nothing wrong schematically but the coaches don't do the blocking.

Jealous. Would love to visit those places and more.

Night road games come with being good. Those won't go away and if they do its not a good thing.

Well, unfortunately that is a feature of this offense. We are never going to run outside of the tackles more than inside. The run sets up the pass. Teams have shown over and over again that if you shut down the run against us then it is game over.

That is the case for most teams, though.

There is no gameplan or scheme that will make up for how bad the offensive line and running backs blocked against Arkansas. You could have inserted a 12 year old as Arkansas coach and the result would probably have been similar.

If I could go back in time and cut our pre-snap penalties and sacks given up in half then I bet we win the game by 10+ points.

I don’t expect either qb to drop dimes in a bucket like Taylen Green did multiple times. Played out of his mind
Mertz does not throw outside the hashes much. However, he is extremely accurate in the middle of the field which is somewhere that we have consistently struggled. My worry is that Florida will give us death by 1000 cuts on each drive while taking 7-8 minutes off the clock.

So the refs love.... Auburn?

Last year Ohio state, Texas, and Notre Dame were all lower than us.... Hard to imagine it's a conspiracy against us if opponents of those teams were getting fewer flags than our opponents.
I am not joining a conspiracy theory, but I would throw out teams in other conferences because the SEC is extra special with handling things. I just know that the lack of consistency is outrageous, and it's why people suggest conspiracy theories. Retaining poor officials and not vetting them have been an actual issue as well, which is just incompetence.

Those are places I want to go
How were they
Amazing I assume
Could you feel the power of scenery
WW2 is my fav war history bc my great grandfather was in it and just that fact and knowing what he did draws me to that war
Those guys fighting in that was were unbelievably brave

let me preface this by saying i've never played a down of american football in my life
I can appreciate that. My wife is one of biggest Tennessee fans I know and she never played a down either. She's not big on x"s and o's but she knows a good bit about the game in general. Last weekend during the game she yells out "That's holding!", which it was, followed by "If I noticed it you know it's real bad, these refs really suck!"

This actually supports my theory that sec refs give huge home field advantages. Auburn has had all home games except for UGA, while we've had 2 cupcakes at home and that's it.

My suspicion is the SEC hires small minded, good ole boy officials who aren't actually the best at their trade, and when the crowd gets rocking, they're not experienced and adept enough to keep a level head and call the game well. The SEC home advantage is probably higher than anywhere else because oirbofficials are so bad and the SEC doesn't pick them based on being the best of the best. Just like if they put an average Joe out there, he's going to call in favor of the home team every time.
