Recruiting Football Talk VIII

The thing I am most impressed by and will set the tone for the rest of the year is not settling for a FG in overtime.

They could have easily taken 3 knees and kicked.

Instead they drove it down their throats and mixed run and pass.

That was aggressive and tone setting.

The team responded.
That was nice to watch. I also enjoyed seeing them take the deep shots. Nico is still playing at about a 5. If he gets to 7 we start pulling away in these games.

We won a lot of ugly games in 98...and would not have even been in the championship game if not for an Arkansas fumble.
It was not always pretty like some now think. I remember some of the same negativity back then. Syracuse

it was not always pretty as some remember it. I remember some of the same negativity. Syracuse, Florida, the same things were said. And those people ate their words and big piles of crow.

Florida’s D Line is one of the worst in the SEC, arguably the worst in terms of all the advanced analytics (before the Tennessee game) probably a lot better now since they dominated Elarbee’s OL. Really confusing letting OU, and then two lesser talented groups in Arkansas and Florida dominate your OL. Bad performance by that group 3 straight games. All sec teams. Gonna have to do something different to improve that group. Heupel says all the time elite teams get better through the year yet his Volunteers sure don’t look like they’re taking notes from his pressers. Hopefully they get that somewhat cleaned up on OL but I’m afraid it is what it is. Vols Bama should be a good one

You can throw all that out the winder in a rivalry game.

Statistically Andy wasnt supposed to win a game.

I seem to recall that happening....
I really don’t understand the fascination with rankings. I think it is a way for people who really don’t understand what’s going on to interface and understand the game. Rankings at this point in the season are meaningless and a media construct. Wait til November.
Find a way to fix the OL and we fix a lot.
After watching the film I don’t think the o-line played that bad, much better than the last two games. I think Heard is not 100%. That game could have been a blowout, a few things different.

Don’t fool yourself with statistics. They have some dudes and they played well. Watch the tape.

I'm about to ape💩 reading all this stupid 💩...I don't want to get ban hammered so..later..

We do not have a great offense for several reasons...it was a forseeable result for people that actually tried to foresee potential problems.

We have horrid OTs...and Nico ain't ready for the pressure that is happening because of it, or the pressure of pleasing this idiot fanbase...so it is what it is and only time will fix it.

This is not a playoff team thanks to those things.

Getting mad and trashing everybody is only going to make everything worse.

Adios 🙋‍♂️
McGill, it ain’t over and if you die in February, you’ll die happy. I promise.

Not saying there's an actual conspiracy with the holding calls

BUT IT WOULD BE NICE TO GET ONE F'N CALL ON OUR OPPONENTS

ONE!!!!!!!

Not just holds, but critical live ball penalties. Next to zero for TWO SEASONS.

Yet we had two positive Nico runs taken away just last night. When was the last time a hold was called on an opponent period? And when on a critical 3rd down?

2023
@ Florida
A&M
@ Bama
@ UK
@ Mizzou
UGA
Vandy

2024
Nc St
@ OK
@ Ark
Florida

NOT A SINGLE ONE. Not one scrambling penalty in any of those games and not a single drive killing hold called. It's a game altering thing. How much better does Nico play if they don't call those runs back? What if they actually called a hold on Florida at any point? Offense does much better and our defense absolutely feasts.

Please give us ONE holding penalty against Bama. PLEASE.
I watched two choke holds one on Josephs and one on West (I think) right in front of the white hat, no call. In the words of the sage McGill, bull 💩.

Took a while for Tee to hit his stride in the passing game, as well. He was not elite throwing. Tremendous game manager and hit the big shot when his number was called.

I wonder if more people who were pissed in an oversized way about the game were bettors angry that the Vols didn't cover, because we did win.
I chose ML.

I usually don’t get upset losing $150 to make $50 in profit.

If I would’ve put $1000, yeah I can see being mad, but I’m always fully aware I’m probably going to lose.

But some people could be.

Not gonna lie. I fully expect to lose next week. I expect to be frustrated by the refs over calls and non-calls. I expect to be frustrated by our OL again. I expect to be frustrated by Nico making freshman mistakes. Maybe if I go in expecting those things, I won't be quite as upset when they happen.

The truth is, we've all seen the officiating is not going to change. We will get screwed. And Nico is a RS-FR, so making those mistakes are all part of his learning process. So that just leaves the OL. Can it be fixed? I hope so, otherwise, we're going to lose more games than just next week. With all the returning experience, I honestly thought the OL would be a strength this year.
