Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I kind of have to ask. I'm sorry in advance.

He's an attention whore. Why do we come on here and give him what he wants? Y'all know why he does it? Because he knows most Vol fans just can't help themselves.

So who are the dumbass(es)?
You. You just added a comment about him.

I'm always amazed when someone says something blatantly trying to grab attention....and people line up to give it.

Stephen A has made untold millions from taking advantage of that phenomenon. Just roll your eyes and move on when someone says something colossally stupid. Don't shine a spotlight in it.

Sure. If that's how you need to spin it. OR...

We could consider that folks keep coming on here linking Twitter of his video. Others ask for self control for people to stop. If you can't see the difference, that's on you.

VN: God, I love Vol Twitter.

Reality: Vol Twitter is why we're a constant target.

Did a bit of digging into snap counts this morning and wanted to point out just how impactful the 2023 class has been to our roster.

2023 Top 20 Players (By On3 Industry Comp):

View attachment 690335

Just one year post recruiting-year: 65% of the top 20 are in the rotation, and 85% are getting playing time. Of those in the buried section, Robinson / Weathersbee both obviously have futures here but have dealt with injuries and being behind the deepest DL in the country. These numbers are freaking ridiculous and are a massive testament to Heupel and Co's ability to scout and develop.

For reference - remember the ridiculous 2014 Butch class? 45% of the top 20 were in the rotation, and only 55% were getting playing time in 2015 (and this was with several extra games and a bowl game the 2024 squad hasn't yet had).

The fact that the 2024 team is as good as it is with that many more RS-FR / SO in the rotation only makes the numbers above more impressive.

Bonus material - the 2023 transfer class:

Omarr Norman-Lott
John Campbell
Keenan Pili
Donte Thornton
Gabriel Jeudy-Lally
McCallan Castles
Andrej Karic
Charles Campbell

Every single one of those guys has been a factor. Not all big-time impact guys, but not one wasted spot.

TLDR: Heup can 'croot.
Forgot a few from the 23 class:
Desaun Bishop
Ayden Bussel
Trevor Duncan
Larry Johnson III

Bishop and Johnson would probably make the numbers a little better.

Just took the top 20 HS players to make it easier to compare against other classes.

Pretty cool model calculator. Pick the games for the rest of the year and it will provide the year end standings.

Good lawd that's confusing without a computer to do it for you.

Maybe we should divide the conference into 2 sides. Call them divisions. Based on geography. Then get rid of Tex, OU, Mizzou, and A&M, which are outside of SEC geography.

Just a random thought on how to improve things and make the league more regionally based 🤔

But then how will Greg Sankey afford another house?

In general I agree with you but the playoffs have their own rankings. You add in automatic bids and the fact that we don’t know exactly how they will set the criteria for entry for the rest of us. Right now our strength of schedule sucks because Alabama lost to Vandy and we lost to Arkansas. NC State and Oklahoma being terrible hurts us too.

If a few 1 loss teams drop that 2nd game it helps us. If we lose to UGA our best win is only Alabama who could be 9-3 by then. Maybe that’s enough but I’d like a little insurance. :)
I was using the final CFP committee rankings fwiw. Not ap or coaches.

I did leave 1 spot for an auto bid (expected to be G5, but could be for Big 12 too). 2 autos is unlikely, but yes that'd shave off 1 spot.

Here's the kicker to me though - you'll have more cannibalism than ever before. Now OU and TX, Oregon and USC possibly taking up top-11 spots are battling and losing (and handing out losses to other top teams).

So I think 10-2 is more of a lock than ever before for an SEC team.

The Bama mystique and intimidation factor is gone. And it's not coming back under DeBoer. They are just another team now, albeit one with a lot of talent. Very beatable, very flawed. They already remind me of UGA under Richt, actually.
Only way they gain that back is if they hire Kirby.
