Recruiting Football Talk VIII

It’s ignorant for anyone to suggest who will make it in the playoff without actually seeing a CFB poll…
"Suggest"?

Are you unfamiliar with research and projections? That's like claiming that it's ignorant for CEOs and CFOs to make annual budgets based on research and projections. Could there be a different kind of ignorance at play in this conversation.

okay Einstein

10-2 UT
10-2 Tex A&M/Texas (with the other one likely being in anyways)
10-2 LSU/Bama
11-1/ 10-2 UGA if they do slip up against someone

Then there’s a legitimate possibility 3 big 10 schools get in. Notre Dame if they don’t lose again. 2 ACC schools maybe, 2 big 12 schools maybe. A group of 5 is guaranteed a spot. Spots are tight. If you feel insanely good at 10-2 you may have blinders on. We can certainly get in at 10-2 under the right circumstances but to act like it’s not iffy is crazy and truly ignorant since you like throwing around words you don’t understand. There’s 12 spots.
That doesn't look like 'ignorance' to me. And isn't that the point. There's a very good chance that several SEC teams finish at 10-2 or better. Does one argue that all of them are guaranteed a place in the playoff? No? Then we're agreed (without guarantee) that there is a good chance one or more SEC teams with 10-2 record gets left out.

Now, of all the potential 10-2 teams across the P4, how would UT likely measure up (especially considering that the selection committee didn't watch film review on every team, much less every game every 10-2 team played).

You go down UT's schedule and see a loss to (at best, for our second loss) UGA--not horrible. Then you see that Arkie loss. They look horrible! Beat UT and lost by 700 to that other 10-2 team, Ole Miss. How can we justify putting UT in over them? Oh! Did you see who they beat? A weak Alabama and... NCSU? KY? Vandy?

There is nothing ignorant about that logic. It's well thought out and based on facts.

Me saying it’s ignorant to have projections for how a playoff will be fielded without the major poll that “matters” the most is literally my whole point…the other data points do not matter
