So we agree on John Wilkerson?I don't care about any of those qualities as much as I care about his ability. I care about how well he does the job, describing what's happening in such a way that people listening can visualize all the details in their mind. That's the most important thing and the thing Kesling is not good at.
Purely out of curiosity, how many folks nowadays "go into radio?"There are some good dual medium guys for sure, but radio is a totally different animal from TV, so I'd prefer someone who's spent their career doing it well instead of someone who's dabbled in it as a side gig for major games where ESPN wants to tout big names for a broadcast in order to draw viewers (or listeners rather).
We need to go ahead and wrap up that title this year.
I thought so too, but somebody here confirmed it a couple months ago. Seems like total BS to me.How are we playing all the exact same sec teams again? I thought this was the last year of having UF UGA Bama?
Yeah, he should be the one.POSSUM THOUGHTS: with @TN-POSSUM
So riding home from work today, I was listening to WNML 99.1. Normally I don't agree with much of what Tyler Ivens and Will West say, but today they sold me on John Wilkerson taking over for Kesling. Their main point, was that JW is already beloved by UT and the fans that tune in for his baseball call.
He also has 3 qualities that I personally want to hear in the "Voice of the VOLS". He's got passion for the University, he's extremely likeable, and he has a great distinguishable voice.
His age got brought up earlier and I couldn't find how old he is. He did graduate from UT in 1988. So he's maybe 60??? . (I'm behind some pages, so someone might have posted it).
After thinking a little more about it, John Wilkerson really is the perfect choice.
If it were John Wilkerson or maybe even Mike Keith and I could sync the audio, I'd definitely listen to the radio while I watched.Purely out of curiosity, how many folks nowadays "go into radio?"
Talking young, aspiring folks. I wonder how many people even listen to the radio broadcasts vs 30 years ago. Not diminishing it, as I still believe it's a great format in its own niche way. But would have to imagine not a ton of people with decades left in their career have cut their teeth behind a radio mic.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but preseason, I feel like I remember several saying the coaches weren’t talking up this season, but were very excited about 2025.Offense will be improved. Raw defensive talent just continues to grow leaps and bounds. Now come in the young talent we haven't had in years, just had to develop out of necessity.
We'll go up from ~top 20 team talent to ~top 10 by next year and will continue to be much more talented than we have been under Heupel.
We're far from "there" yet, as seen with this year's ho hum struggles many a times. But we're just getting started.
That's scary for other teams...
