Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I’m normally positive but I had my gripes about Banks yesterday. That QB from MSST was never beating us with his arm. Running cheetah fronts and vacating LBers was killing me. Sat there with my son saying every time we go small up front Lebby checks to middle run. The strength of state was their guards and center. Banks deserved all the credit for Oklahoma, Bama, and NCST. Our defense was not great against misdirection teams like Arkansas, Florida and run fits with MSST. Kentucky was neutral.
“They were willing to give up the middle rushing lanes to cutoff the outside passing. They had 2 RBs that averaged 6.3YPC and almost all of that was up the gut. Their QB had a QBR of like 26 and only threw for 90-something yards. I really believe Banks and company were willing to sacrifice what they would give up in the run down the middle to shut everything else down and it worked. It looked uglier than it really was I believe. I was also critical of the D-Line not getting to the QB, but the two plays by Eason and Jenkins were huge at critical times during the game. So I feel my criticism was not correct specific to the D-Line”

Taken from the football forum, the fact there are ppl in football forum that know more about ball than some in recruiting forum is not ideal…btw we only gave 271 yards
Ive clearly stated that I never played a down of football, for years moran.

Hence why it was phrased in question form. Appreciate the discussion, you answered with a quote.

Makes sense than and I am a Moran sometimes Miss state runs a variation of our offense so they spread out and attacked the middle like we do on other teams…we gave up yards on a light base to prevent big plays in the passing game which that Miss state QB has shown he can do against other sec teams this year

SEC Nation has Alabama ahead of Tennessee in their Power Rankings lol. WE BEAT THEM. Next week is a must win. Sucks, but it is. We won’t be in the playoff otherwise.
Well they did just kill LSU at LSU. They also beat UGA. Besides Bama, who have we beat?

Two wins against good teams
We have one.

Here’s the records for the teams we’ve played.
Vols: 37-48
Bama: 44-41

We squeeze by mediocre teams because of defense. If the offense would’ve taken care of business we would be having a different convo. Reality is, if our defense wasn’t this good our record would probably be around 4-4.

Also, when the announcer last night says, “Miss St averages more points in the SEC than UTs offense does”, that’s an issue

Happy Sunday. Always feels better after a win.

November 10, 2024: You are in a spiritual pause. Take this time to reflect on the progress you have made and see how far you have come. You are about to enter into a phase of preparation for that which is ahead. But, you do not have to be afraid that you will miss the next move of His Spirit. It is God who will prepare you and position you to accomplish His will.. Move with the flow of My Spirit. Galatians 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Not the ideal game to be the walking wounded headed into Athens. They are gonna be like sharks after blood with that beat down from Ole Piss. Kirby will do everything in his power to have them on another level this week.

I never trust Heupel with injury news and don’t think Nico will actually play. Their DL gonna feast on our OL, with or without Nico. With our porous OL and the DL who can’t stop the run the last two games my BVS has flared back up.

Sorry fellas, throw me into the river because I don’t see us coming out of Athens with a dub and think our playoff hunt ends there unfortunately. They will look for the smallest of cracks in us to knock us out of CFP contention.
I could push you off the Henley Street Bridge if it would make you feel better.

“Squeeze by” apparently winning by 10 or more points is squeezed by now days to kids

Just to put things into perspective about how our D played relative to other notable teams.

Besides our rush D being a little disappointing

Haha…that’s what makes us a very good team- our defense. Once again, we beat a team head to head, and we get this argument. We will also have beaten the other team that beat Bama. Sounds like 2022 again.

Worrisome thought...Pavia is gonna run wild on us if our front 7 doesn't wrap him up better than they did Van Buren tonight....and that stupid inside run was completely pissing me off...wtf was that about?

I know we didn't give up many points and the defense wasn't awful...but that's the first time I thought the defense looked a little blase all year.

We miss Pili.
He won't.

10 point win at home to UK
6 point win at home to FL

Both suck

10 point win against a 5-5 OU team
Lost to a ****** Ark team

All mediocre teams.

UGA: Beat UGA home, not mediocre
@ LSU: destroyed them away
@ Wisconsin: mediocre but destroyed them
Missouri: 7-2, destroyed them.

Again, it’s called taking care of business.
So yes kiddo we squeeze by.

Florida wasn’t a mediocre win when they are healthy…and acting like Missouri and Wisconsin wins for Bama would be looked at the same if those two teams had Floridas schedule is just not living in reality

Again winning by 10+ is not mediocre

Shouldn’t really matter how you win. Indiana has been impressive? Against an awful schedule.

UGA squeaked by UK. Ole Miss lost to UK, but their offense is dynamic? Am I right? It’s however the narrative needs to be spun.

If Mehlroe didnt run wild, I don't think Pavia is gonna do it.

That’s fact.

But here’s another fact, I’m arguing against the “sunshine and rainbows crowd”

I’ll stay in the middle crowd where I’m looking at all sides, not just UTs. That way I’m not picking up torches if get left out. I’ll leave arguing and complaining to the “UT is perfect” crowd

You and GoodTime have never once said anything negative about the program. Y’all may complain, but never any negatives…always sunshine

Sorry to be the guy that points this out, but several of us discussed this, and were called Negas while being informed it could never happen.

The loss to Arkie--and the bottom falling out of our SoS--hurt us.

I don't think we're out of the playoffs with a potential loss to UGA next week, but Arkie game looks more hurtful every week that ESPN has to create Bama narrative.

The good news is that we are 8-1 with our destiny in our own hands. Just win.

UT - 40
Notre Dame - 18

After one of the worst losses in school history to Rutgers, the Vols hosted #13 Notre Dame, who made their first visit to Knoxville. Jimmy Streater showed the 86,497 fans (school record at the time) a combination of fluent running and passing during the first half that allowed UT to score 30 pts. Jeff Olszewski lead the team in the second half after Streater’ knee injury, but the star of the day was Hubert Simpson. When Simpson signed with the Vols, he said, “I heard Tennessee doesn’t have a fullback. They do now.” The bruising fullback had 117 yrds and 4 TDs in the 40-18 Vols victory.

Simpson and Streater
