Well they did just kill LSU at LSU. They also beat UGA. Besides Bama, who have we beat?

Two wins against good teams
We have one.

Here’s the records for the teams we’ve played.
Vols: 37-48
Bama: 44-41

We squeeze by mediocre teams because of defense. If the offense would’ve taken care of business we would be having a different convo. Reality is, if our defense wasn’t this good our record would probably be around 4-4.

Also, when the announcer last night says, “Miss St averages more points in the SEC than UTs offense does”, that’s an issue

Thank God playing defense is a part of football

Many would even say defense wins championships and travels. The narrative around Bama is set and they clearly didn’t lose to the powerhouse known as Vanderbilt. The TSIO was also a figment of our imagination. Lots of football left to be played and we are in prime position. We actually have as good of an opportunity to be the number one seed as we do being left out. Ultimately I like our chances based on elite defense even though the talking heads put a premium on offense. Didn’t Saban make Bama a dynasty by playing great defense? I’m with Doc that we go 15-1 until we don’t. I feel a little dirty because of the Bama dynasty comment. I hate the whole state of Alabama.

Unfortunately ours doesn't look much different, except our best win is better (albeit they lost to Vandy, so )


Next is common opponents.

OU (31 pt margin v 10 for us) - neutral v road
Miss St (22 v 19..a wash) - both home
UF (32 v OT win) - both home

2 more still to go. Hopefully we do better v UGA and Vandy than they did (15 pt L @home and 3 pt win in Nashville, respectively)

I do think we should be viewed quite similarly at this point. We have a better win and they have a higher margin vs common opps. Think there's still some anchoring happening in their view, such as with their dominant W over Michigan, which now is about as meaningless as the NC State win.

Miss State scored 31 points and had 385 total yards vs Georgia. (271 vs the Vols.) They also passed for over 300 yards on the Dogs. (92 vs Vols)

I like our chances.

I’m struggling to see the logic with us being eliminated IF we lose to Georgia. Let’s say that happens.

Ole Miss and Bama have the head to head against Georgia so if they both win out they’ll go to SEC championship.

Texas and Texas A&M play and I believe A&M will get their third loss.

If Bama or Ole Miss lose in SEC championship they’ll have a 3rd loss. Heck, if Georgia lost to Texas in a rematch they’d have a third loss.

In my estimation it is more probable that of the 5 SEC teams in contention for 4 spots that it is likely 2 will get a third loss.

If Texas loses it’s a crapshoot but we should win our final two games at a minimum and have a legitimate shot.

Honest question. Why would Bama or Ole Miss go to championship game over us if we lose to UGA. We have tie breaker over Bama just like Bama has over UGA and UGA would have over us. The tie breakers will be interesting if it is Texas or AM, us, UGA, Bama, Ole Miss and LSU all with two sec losses.
