Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Yes...but Van Buren ran wild. If we had bottled him up last night, they don't even score.

I hope you're right and our run defense has just been an anomaly the last two games.
Van Buren broke contain and took advantage of rush lane integrity breaking down. Paivia's success has been running the option. Different mindset and scheme to defend. My biggest concern with UGA is the crossers sitting down in soft zones. Force Beck to throw in tight spaces and we have a big night.

Tired of people trying to tell us at great length what the problem is with our highly ranked team that is literally in 1st place in the SEC.

And if one day it turns out they were setting themselves up all along to proclaim a big "I told you so," that is the cheapest, most feckless, no-insight, safest, no-guts, thing a person can do. Literally anybody can play that game.

None of these peeps could have survived the eras they think of as back when Tennessee was good. They would have committed suicide. It's not only Fulmer, Majors, and Dickey they would have hated. These people would have hated Neyland.

SHOULD, WOULD, COULD and WILL leaves a lot of room for respectfuldiscussion without ***hole initial responses to my posts.

I have not once said that we WILL miss the playoffs, or that Bama WILL get in ahead of us. All I've done is given logical reasons why (that same thing y'all seem to agree is possible) is possible.

Yet here we are, with me defending a premise that y'all agree with against ***hole, sarcastic condescension.

Yay VN.

I'll reiterate.

We're in a more precarious position with 2 losses than we thought a probable two losses would look like before the season started. Thus, we need to win out to make it a surety. Thankfully we still have our own destiny in our hands, so let;s do it.

Anyone that still wants to play ****-measuring after the 50th time I've explained that point can kick rocks. They've lost my good will and willingness to waste any more time on them.
I actually agree without you for once.

I said this last week....if we lose another game, they will screw us out of the playoffs. They were and are already spinning the narrative.

I don't believe it is logical....it will be a screw job, especially considering our QB, RB and #1 WR are all beat up and will probably not be 100%.

But that will not matter to the committee...if we lose Saturday, then we are out at 10-2 imo barring a whole lot of unexpected help from others.

This game was winnable, but was going to be tough to win even if all of those guys are at 100%...winning without them at 100% is not likely imo...it will take our defense playing awesome and getting at least 20 points out of a beat up offense...on the road...where we often don't play well even when at 100%.

So...we will see what happens.

My loins are girded...nothing will catch me off-guard.

Jeez man...objective truth is what it is. We are a good team with several obvious flaws...that's not heresy, it's just the truth.

I want to he clear...I'm not saying the defense played awful or was embarrassing..that is asinine.

I am saying they played a little blase and passive at times last night...a lot of other times they looked like their usual pissed off selves and made great plays.

I don't think it is wrong to say that.

When I think about how terrible Beck has been lately and how we have the best defense in the country... I begin to feel confident.

When I think about playing UGA coming off a loss in Athens...I get less confident.

NO ONE has a bad game against us. Just doesn't happen. We will get the Georgia Texas faced. We will have to play our best all year to beat them.

To accommodate the sec and other conference tiebreaker scenarios, somebody made a calculator. You can put in who wins what games and see the outcomes. If we lose to UGA, and A&M loses to Texas, the Gumps get in.

Our defense now is similar to how those recent past UGA and Bama defenses were. I’d say it’s probably just as good as the 98 defense.

If the gumps get in, they'll lose to Texas and be out of the playoffs with 3 losses. Likeliest scenario then is us, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas in the playoffs.

Based on that and running simulations there is pretty well no way for us to get in with two losses unless something crazy happens like Oklahoma beating Bama etc
