Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Because we've looked like complete trash on offense, struggling against Medicare teams.
I was asking him, since it was his charge. But go ahead and answer. Do you say the committee is ignorant of the fact that defense wins games (incompetent) or corrupt in ignoring what they do know because they are more interested in selling TV commercials?

And keep in mind, just for fun, that we won our last championship on defense.

No, I think they look at the fact that other teams are dropping 40+ on teams we are struggling to get by.

If it comes down to it, we will jump bama after we throttle Vandy. Glad that game is in nashville so it's like for like.

I am not worried about it.

I think we take care of business this weekend though and play our first complete game and just dominate from start to finish.

This doesn't look great. Just keep winning.

If we are going to do preseason polls and polls starting week one then this needs to be ranked wins when you play them... not current.

How do you get penalized for beating a team that was ranked and because you beat them they fell out of the top 25.

That is what strength of schedule is for.

We actually have the most wins against ranked teams this year - and zero losses vs ranked teams.

So, margin of victory, I hear you saying.

So greater average margin of victory (if they have that, idk) advances a 2-loss team (Bama) with a direct head-to-head loss to an opponent (Tennessee) over the one-loss team that beat them on the field? Doesn't seem reasonable.

I feel like that answer forces me back to the choice between ignorance (incompetence) and corruption (putting imagined* greater TV ratings above just football-based ratings for the sake of profits).

* I don't know it's even true that fewer people will watch a playoff game that involves a team that has it's strength on defense. Georgia won Kirby's only championship on defense.

Starting to get 2006 Georgia game vibes. Feel like we might throttle them. Their O is dysfunctional and I feel like we’ll be able to wear the defense down

We haven’t really throttled any SEC team yet this season though. If we win it’s probably a nail biter to the very end.
