Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Arky wasn't.

And honestly it might hurt us, but I've always thought it was dumb when teams took credit for beating ranked teams and then they finish poorly. Like you really didn't beat a good team.
Like Bama beating LSU? The game that set off the new round of Bama media frenzy.

#21 LSU is lucky they are not playing #25 Tulane this year.

While I agree with this.. It gets messy if Tennessee, UGA and Bama are all sitting there at 10-2, all having beaten the other. So then you have to go to common opponents and losses, and I think that's where Arkansas really hurts. And vandy hurts Bama... It will be in the eye of the beholder... Strangely enough, if we can beat vandy handily, that may be a difference maker in some people's eyes when comparing Bama and Tennessee... DESPITE HAVING ALREADY BEATEN THEM TOO.

So get ready... It's gonna get a little sporty for several sec teams, us included. I'm sure Ole miss feels like they deserve to get in too.
Listen to several different talking heads on radio and YouTube and they all listed Bama-UGA-Ole Miss-Texas-Texas A&M in what if scenarios with 10-2 records😡
Finally someone would say something like oh and Tennessee🤬
We need to win out!!! ”They” are already putting the “fix in”

So, margin of victory, I hear you saying.

So greater average margin of victory (if they have that, idk) advances a 2-loss team (Bama) with a direct head-to-head loss to an opponent (Tennessee) over the one-loss team that beat them on the field? Doesn't seem reasonable.

I feel like that answer forces me back to the choice between ignorance (incompetence) and corruption (putting imagined* greater TV ratings above just football-based ratings for the sake of profits).

* I don't know it's even true that fewer people will watch a playoff game that involves a team that has it's strength on defense. Georgia won Kirby's only championship on defense.
Yes, you can have a couple close games, or even a fluke loss if you look good the rest of the way. Our problem was those UK and MSST games were horrible. We really needed those to be beatdowns.

I was asking him, since it was his charge. But go ahead and answer. Do you say the committee is ignorant of the fact that defense wins games (incompetent) or corrupt in ignoring what they do know because they are more interested in selling TV commercials?

And keep in mind, just for fun, that we won our last championship on defense.

I believe they are corrupt. That is my charge. The media (and Vegas fwiw) is already chalking up this weekend as an L for us. That tells me all I need to know. We don’t fit their narrative they’re trying to sell this year so they’re trying to get us out of the playoff by downplaying our success this season. We play ugly gritty football that wears teams down and we don’t score a lot of points while doing so. Not good for viewership. We’re not marketable so we’re being counted out already.

This take makes no sense considering viewership numbers which is what really matters in terms of money and advertising…

Honest question. Why would Bama or Ole Miss go to championship game over us if we lose to UGA. We have tie breaker over Bama just like Bama has over UGA and UGA would have over us. The tie breakers will be interesting if it is Texas or AM, us, UGA, Bama, Ole Miss and LSU all with two sec losses.
Then Ole Miss would go correct? Their losses are worse (Kentucky and LSU) but those two losses aren’t in contention. In that scenario I would be worried if Ole Miss beat Texas in the championship.

The UK and Miss St games were "horrible" based on your expectations, perhaps. They were not horrible per se.

Compare:
UK 20, Ole Miss 17
Georgia 13, UK 12
Tennessee 28, UK 18

Tennessee 33, Miss St 14
Texas 35, Miss St 13
Georgia 41, Miss St 31
