Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Guys were open. Calls werent made on receivers, yes. Holding penalties perhaps didnt get called either.

At end of the day, OL did NOT play well. Bad penalties, not blocking....Arkansas' secondary played their best game. Running game wasn't consistent, and Nico was off.

Still yet, had a chance to win. Bone headed play on Special Teams. Not getting into end zone, but that's been this offense's issue all year.

Yeah, we're in a year where ANY one mistake can be the difference between a big play and a big negative play. In previous years we seemed to have a bit more flexibility...one OL could get beat but Hooker and WRs would bail them out or Small would pickup the slack in the back field. This year it's almost like one OL gets beat and the other 4 are also getting beat...it's strange.

Still 8-1 with 3 left is better than I thought we'd be going into this season so no real complaints. 9-3 was my most optimistic projection pre-season and we should be able to meet that still.

If anybody wants to get a feel of how this week's bracket may look like. Heather Dinich has her bracket posted for tonight on the ESPN app. Only bad thing it's behind a paywall and I'm not paying $12 dollars .

Once again she knows more than any of the so called experts on this topic.
her top CFP top 25 projection:

and then her projection: "This is not a ranking. This is what the seeding and bracket would look like based on the committee's projected top 25 for this week"

"Yeah, we know they already beat them, but ....we just don't think they are better than Alabama, so let's see if they can do it twice, just to make sure".
-Committee, prolly.

this is the scenario that i do hate about this version of the playoff. what this basically says is that the regular season game didn't matter.

Yeah, our guys are going to have to realize that we (our players) control the crowd, not the other way around. Execute, execute, execute. Take them out of the game. It's possible. I have been there to see that crowd go mute with my own eyes. Be more physical than Georgia. Break Georgia. See that look on their players' faces when they realize we (I mean our players) are taking their place in the playoffs and there is nothing they can do to stop it.
In my opinion Sanford is not that hostile an environment. There are times when it is loud but it is not near as oppressive as Neyland when it is rocking.

One thing I don't really like... a lot of talking head sports "analyst" don't do any actual research or stat reviewing.

4th in SEC in points per game
3rd in SEC in Total Yards per game
4th in SEC in first downs per game
6th in SEC in fewest turnovers per game

What about that screams vulnerabilities? It's the most goal post moved thing I've seen. We're not running the offense as well as our 2022 team did, but compared to the rest of the SEC we're a great offense. We're also ahead of Georgia in all 4 categories, ahead of Bama in 2 of the 4 categories, ahead of Texas in 2 of the 4 categories. The only offense that's objectively better statistically is Ole Miss.

The one revealed tonight maybe a little different.

#5 seed probably Ohio State
#6 should be Tennessee because obviously the committee is projecting Texas to win SEC Championship.
#7 probably Indiana they are the media darlings as of now.

Question was SMU projected to win ACC title now since Miami lost? @BigSteve09

TIA..

not sure, if you're projecting, that assumes SMU would beat Miami...so you could still have Miami in as the ACC champ i guess. if you're going on standings right now, then you put SMU on that line.

they had:

(1) Oregon
(2) Texas
(3) BYU
(4) Miami

(9) ND at (8) Indiana
(12) Boise at (5) Ohio St
(11) UGA at (6) Penn St
(10) Bama at (7) UT

First 4 out:
Ole Miss
SMU
Colorado
Clemson

Next 4 out:
Kansas St
TAMU
LSU
Louisville

...this thing is a mess, I'm not putting much stock into their projections

it's the down field passing game. that hasn't passed the eye test since September. we know that.

that said, that would also completely devalue how good we are in the run game, given that deficiency. which really should speak to just how good our run game is. and we can't completely dismiss the downfield passing game as we are still showing it, and at times, still plenty capable.

Cole Cubelic has been pretty vocal about how impressed he is with our ability to change styles and win in multiple ways. says that should be a compliment, not a complaint. and he's also been quick to point out that the reason we're not connecting on some of this down field stuff isn't because we aren't scheming it up and getting guys open....

but how many committee members see that and buy in to it? no clue.

Sucks, losing at Arkansas will be the backbreaker for us this season if we don't win out.

For me coming off an emotional win at OU then a bye week playing at Arkansas before playing our two biggest rivals back to back was always a trap game.

Also didn't expect that to be the offense that put up the most points and yards on our defense (through 9 games).

Ole Miss just took good advantage of the hogs secondary injuries. If you look at the stats it's pretty obvious attrition has hurt the hogs since playing us. They're 1-2 and in those 3 games they've allowed 200+ passing yards and at least 68% completion. Before the LSU game they had only given up 60% completion once to UAB.
Somehow losing to arky is worse then uk at home like ole piss
Texas best win is what.. vandy

Our resume is better then both
