On November 14, 1970, the Marshall Thundering Herd football program and boosters were returning home after a tough 17 to 14 loss to the East Carolina Pirates in Greenville, North Carolina.

Around 7:30 PM, as Southern Airways Flight 932 began to approach the Tri-State Airport in Huntington, West Virginia, the plane reportedly crashed into the hillside west of what was then runway 11, now runway 12.


According to the NTSB’s investigation, “…the probable cause of this accident was the descent below Minimum Descent Altitude during a non-precision approach under adverse operating conditions, without visual contact with the runway environment”

The plane was unfortunately carrying 37 Thundering Herd football players, 8 football staff members, 25 athletics boosters, two pilots, two flight attendants and the charter coordinator. With this flight being the only one of the 1970 season, many Marshall boosters and higher ups attended. This resulted in 70 kids losing at least one parent, with 18 being left orphaned.

We could have run it up on FL, UK, and Bama if we could just stop shooting ourselves in the foot on offense. We do that and all this playoff gnashing of the teeth is moot. For all the talk about quality wins and bad losses and blah blah blah, this is still a damn beauty pageant, and an offense that can’t get out of its own way is ugly.

Defense is part of the “beauty pageant,” thus resulting in wins. Once again, it’s just a way to pick and choose what the committee believes is important. All Warde Manuel talks about is offense, which is ridiculous. Penn State isn’t exactly an offensive juggernaut.

Defense is the only reason we’re in this thing at all. If this team ever manages to put it all together… We can shut everyone up.

DR gave up two prime years for military service, so his career numbers are a little lower and diluted than other top bigs.

Hakeem is the only player in the top 10 in both steals and blocks. Pretty remarkable for a center.

God knows we don't deserve those majestic, loving creatures. Hope she was able to leave this life peacefully.

Tennessee fan base has donated over $90,000 dollars to a go fund me for Money Williams. The Montana guard who with his sister is raising their 3 younger siblings after both their parents have passed away in the last couple of years.


That's what it should be all about helping others in need in this World.
