Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I don’t understand how anyone says he isn’t elite x and os when he won back to back
Titles and is in the playoff hunt every year. Last night he out coached us plain and simple. We actually have a team who can match up with them for once. And we did, until they adjusted and out coached us. They had an elite gameplan to stop our pass rush and shut our offense down second half.

This is all true. They do have more talent but that wasn’t the issue last night.

Lotta bad takes in here and they’re all excused (hopefully mine included) because gawd that freaking sucked.

My shite takes:

Defense: Bank’s isnt the problem. They were throwing the ball quick and taking advantage of a talent gap and home field advantage. Looked very South Carolina 2022 esque. Same reason we didn’t get home. Disappointed by some of the lack of disguise. Think we would have sacked and forced INT if Beck was more confused by what we were doing. What I don’t understand is the seam passes that were wide open over and over. No knock on Will brooks because he has way outplayed his pay this year but we need a talent influx. shaedy can’t get here soon enough.

Offense: Big Kudos to Nico, he looked like the man minus a couple misses. Receiver drops, again. Man that’s killing us. Offensive line looked overwhelmed. I don’t think we have the depth there to stay in a game against a team this good on the road, and it shows. Wish we’d power run more, love seeing an extra blocker coming through the hole. Peyton Lewis is good, need him (and Sampson) off the tackles and in space more).

Refs were awful. We weren’t good enough. We lost. Media got what they wanted. There should be no way we beat Bama and Florida and miss the playoffs, and we probably will. Praying for chaos and a change of sentiment from the cfp committee. All I wanted this year was the validation of legitimacy of making the playoff. Please please let it happen still.

Also, f’ uga, bama, and Texas is a baby back bitch too and I hope it gets proven in the seccg.

I graded them for the ass kicking they gave tonight. They blitzed the safety, the corner, both inside and outside linebacker. They shifted, they were aggressive. Banks rushed 4 down linemen, all night, every play regardless of down and distance or field position. He did this against 6 and 7 blockers. He never adjusted. He looks good when he can get pressure with 4. If he can't he's toast. Always has.
Criticism is always fair. I’m guessing Hype feels every unit had room for improvement. The fact is Beck was throwing dimes all night. Bobo called an amazing game and sometimes you just get lucky with calls. It only took 4-5 plays to make a difference. Two Beck examples are the seem TD to tight end for a TD and the back shoulder to Humphreys when McCoy was wearing his uniform coverage was so tight. Agressive blitzing does not always work. Todd Grantham found many pink slips in his locker over the years by going all out exotic blitzing at many stops…. I also don’t think our young LB’s are very good blitzers yet. They are sophomores and much like Beasley who got a heavy dose of criticism as a sophomore starter they will improve along with our 2 sophomore corners and freshman star…

I woke up this morning still pissed. There’s no whitewashing this game. We should have and could have won, but our defense didn’t show up and our WRs, yet again, screwed the pooch. Meanwhile, Heupel still can’t win the big games on the road. And even though I feel we have the more impressive resume, I firmly believe the committee puts us just outside the top 12 and moves Ole Miss up to Top 10. So now our only hope rests in Billy Boy down in the Swamp.

We have some nice WRs but no elite WRs and it showed last night. I’d like to see us bring in a transfer WR that will help us win these big games. The throws were there.

UGA's defense scheme wise is elite compared to the Vols high school level. Tim Banks did nothing. He never adjusted. If you asked GA to outline the perfect defense for them to go against, it would be that one.

The Vols defense looks great if you can pressure the QB with 4/5 guys. When you can't, it's game over. It's the same script we've seen play out since he's been here.

We you call people out when they criticize Banks and they win, you need to accept the beat down when they suck. "Oh, he just had a bad game" doesn't cut it.

I mean the job of the defense is to keep them from scoring, right? 4/5 straight drives isn't doing that. The bend but don't break, broke. 😅
Anytime you’re trotting Perry or Smith out there at LB you might as well be playing 9/10 on 11. Could easily maneuver around that by adding an extra rusher or a star/safety like Harrison/Jakobe/Slaughter instead but no we’ll watch these two LB move at G5 speeds while TEs make them look silly.

Banks is a good young DC. But he also still has so much he has to improve on before he’s as good as some people were trying to make him out to be earlier in the season.

Part of me worries if CJH is our Mark Richt. Good guy, wins a lot games, loved by his players and their families

I was literally begging for him to do something different. 3rd and 25 and he rushed 4 and dropped everyone else in coverage to the sticks, 25 yards down the field. I knew it was over at that min. He's pulled that crap time and time again. He's not changing.

Banks brought the blitz and they picked it up easy. I think the problem isn’t the play call but the lack of deception and disguising of coverages pre-play.

Uga does a really good job running an exotic defense and making it hard to recognize what’s about to happen. Combine that with they’re talent and depth, hard to put up big numbers against them.

I need to explain this to me like I'm three years old. Why are we out of the playoffs as a two game loser, when Bama is in it when we beat them and they lost to Vandy? (that win against LSU wasn't impressive considering what we saw last night from them against Florida, who we also beat)

Recency bias. Alabama won multiple national championships in the modern era. Their brand draws eyeballs to the games and the committee wants ratings.

We draw eyeballs too but not at that level.

He was throwing dimes because he was throwing against air most of the time. We weren't getting pressure rushing 4 against 7. It was never going to work yet he never changed things up. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Tim Banks will never, ever field a championship level defense.

I think we bring ratings if you look at the yearly ratings winners at ESPN, and who doesn't want to see new blood? I sure would.

Banks brought 5 a handful of times. It was always a linebacker. 4-5 rushers against 7 doesn't win often.

He’s not the only DC guilty of thinking prevent defense is good on any play other than a hail mary. Too common in football altogether.

But that 3rd where we brought the house, they called the perfect screen for it but it still got disrupted because the pressure messed up the timing and prevented blockers from getting out? That gives me a little bit of hope that he’s starting to realize you can just bring pressure when youre supposed to without trying to be super deceptive and it can still work.

We’ll find out either way. He’s our DC next year barring some absolute surprise.

I don’t call it a validation of legitimacy of making the CFP when we would have to back into because others will have had to lose. We wouldn’t have earned it IMHO, sort of “gifted it” but I’m sure you’ll take a gift.

Again just MHO but this isn’t a CFP team. I know there’s been a lot of parody in CFB this year, but with that said I still think there’s some glaring deficiencies on this team (staff included).

My brain (and soul) can’t handle this.

Keep talking, I’m listening. I need the hope.
Oh that was last night. I have 0 hope this morning. I’m already looking ahead and seeing the chapters being written. We’ll beat Vandy and go to some stupid bowl game where we’ll roll that opponent. Then we’ll hear all about how next year is the year, but have you seen that schedule? We really gonna think Heupel, who can’t win on the road, manages to run the table in Tuscaloosa, Gainesville, Starkville, and Lexington? Meanwhile Billy Boy will get the Gators back to national prominence next year and Heupel enters 2026 on the hot seat.

I’m so over it.

As long as he's here, we'll never win anything of significance. 9-3, 10-2 is the ceiling. I pray he'll get that head coaching job but he makes so much here i don't see him taking a job that he would get offered.

I think our path is losses from two of Notre Dame, A&M, Ole miss, and Bama.

ESPNs odds for their remaining games:

Next week
42% Auburn > A&M
22% Florida > Miss
18% OU > Bama
12% Army > ND

Thanksgiving week
78% Texas > A&M
33% USC > ND
9% Auburn > Bama
5% Miss St > Ole Miss
Gods prayer box gonna be overflowing with submission from me.
