Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Bama beat UGA and thrashed LSU. Both their losses were on the road to above average teams.

UGA thrashed Texas and Tennessee. Both their losses were on the road to good teams but they got killed by ole miss. But they have the best win at Texas.

Ole Miss thrashed UGA and South Carolina. Losing to UK at home is the worst loss by far.

Tennessee barely beat Bama, no other ranked wins. Both our losses were on the road, but one to an unranked team (not even a bowl team), so we have the 2nd worst loss.

They all have better wins than we do. Our loss is worse than everyone except ole miss.

Honestly we need 5 sec teams to get in or a 3 loss sec team (conf champ loser) to get knocked out. Both are reasonably possible I think. Byu should drop quite a bit.

Our argument shouldn't be that we deserve it over the other three 2 loss sec teams (though there is some argument to be made about head to head over Bama), it should be more that we deserve it over Miami, byu, Indiana (once they get stomped) or we deserve it over whichever 3 loss team loses to Texas in the champ game.
And we need A&M to not steal a spot. And we could use Penn State falling on their faces.

The head to head argument doesn't work here, or they'd never be able to let anyone in.

TN beat Bama, so you have to put UT in over Bama. Bama beat UGA so you can't put UGA in above Bama. UGA beat UT, so you can't put UT in above UGA.

Basically, UT doesn't have the SoS to compete.

Ya, I agree. Head to head is a tough argument unless all else is (or much else) is equal. 1 ranked win < 2 ranked wins, so H2H probably won't be needed as a tie breaker.

But we have a good argument to be made over 1 loss byu or Miami or Indiana.

Or ole Miss can drop one to UF and make all this super easy.

Sad part is our offense will not get better next year, probably worse even. Losing 3 starters on the OL, Sampson, and our only 2 good wr’s

Yah. We can get in if certain bolts drop into the correct slots. I want to be in the playoff. I want to win it all. But I'm carrying some context into the conversation.

If you'd told me four years ago this is where we'd be, having competed to get into the playoff two of the four years, but still not *quite* there, I'd have paid double for the unexpected blessing.

It's happening. It's coming. We just need patience. The "Heupel created this untenable, screeching, swelled-brain logic by outperforming expectations, so all this stupid BS is on him" argument is absolute blank-stare, drool-chinned stupidity from what we've been assuming are functional adults.

What's wild is Brazzell had no trouble torching defenses at Tulane, even against better opponents, but he's basically a warm body right now. The rest of the group were unproven at their prior stops but had immense potential.

Our passing game last night was a 160lb 5'9" guy getting open and a TE mismatching LBs. Then designed quick passes to the flat and curl routes off cushions.

I love Bru, but he's lost a step and not getting open downfield. That's why he hasn't scored, because he's not consistently getting open. I think Brazzell's inability to produce is probably coaching and lack of physicality. Thornton unfortunately has had injuries. Nimrod has a horrible drop rate.

We have insane talent in that room and they aren't producing or they aren't seeing the field. It's November, Staley and Matthews should be playing. If they're still behind what we are currently seeing then that's probably position group coaching. I hate throwing coaches under the bus but our WRs have been subpar since Hyatt and Tillman went to the league despite having more depth and talent.
This just has got to be addressed. If it's not coaching by the receiver coach then it has to be the OC . Either way these transfers seem to can't miss stars in the making. You don't have to be strong to figure out how to get open off press coverage. Some people are just not cut out to be a coach. Just look at how the lady VOLS have looked sense Pat retirement. Just because you came through the system doesn't mean you can coach it. GBO 🍊 get to 10-2 see what happens.
