Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I ain’t gonna say anymore about it after this because we win, but man let the kids play it out.

If they continue to look like ****, then yes by all means, but 1-2 minutes then yanking a kid doesn’t do a damn thing for em.

I feel like some of his players play tense because they know if they make one mistake it’s right back to the bench.
That’s life, they want to play in the NBA someday the same will happen.

OH, I completely agree. It's one of the reasons I don't like him.

I don't think the committee knows what it is doing. While I agree with your statement, the committee chair said last week the reason BYU and Indiana moved ahead of Tennessee is because they had quality wins over Utah (4-5) and Michigan (5-5). By that definition Tennessee has quality wins over Florida, Oklahoma, and NC State.
That's not what was said. It was "big wins on their schedule". Which is true. They were hurdle games. Similar to if we had just beaten UF and the team across from us, marginally the same ranking as us, beat a 2-7 team...

The margin was already razor thin, so any halfway good wins were going to bump them up.

To OP's point, we do have the worst resume of all the 2-loss SEC teams. But we're in, so folks should relax regardless. Just dial in for Vandy, because that's a tough one.

All this talk about a drop off next season is stupid. We won 9 games last season despite noticeable regression from the offense. With the way Heupel has recruited and the guys they land in the portal, this program should be a stable 9+ win program every year. The discussion needs to focus on how they take the next step forward and quit worrying that we'll go 7-5. Hell, it's not a lock that we don't make the playoffs and finish strong this season. Last night sucked because it was a winnable game and we didn't get it done against the top program in the country...not because we found out we're miles behind after a blowout. Cross your fingers that we make the playoffs and get another shot at UGA.
There is one position that had me very worried for next year. It’s one that not too many mention often. Center. This offense goes as Coop goes. Will we have a competent replacement for him?

I literally quoted from from the rule book… also false equivalency, catch and going out of bounds isn’t the same as a catch and getting rocked
I don't care what you quoted from. Quoting a rule doesn't make the rule, or your position, correct. The way the rules are written is inconsistent and full of subjectivity.

And there should be no false equivalency. A catch is either a catch or not, no matter where it occurs. That there are different definitions of a catch depending on where you are on the field, is evidence of the flaw in the rule.

Um, this is the first year of the 12-team playoffs, so they haven't done it "plenty of times" yet.
The committee started in 2014. They dropped teams that lost in the conference champ game, especially if the team wasn’t undefeated. Not dropping a 3 loss team in the ranking playoffs would set up a terrible precedent

Counterpoint.

2007, Georgia Dome. Lost to a freshman QB in SECCG.

Let's understand that after sitting in freezing ass December cold, nosebleeds Neyland watching us get it handed to us by Vandy.
Many, many, many games in between. Too many to include in this rant...

Dooley ball, Butch ball, Pruitt ball.

We want to win. At a high level. And, while i'm appreciative wins. Dont tell me to eat ****, and call it sugar. There are glaring issues. If it makes me 'entitled' then so ****ing be it.

You think those Georgia and Alabama pricks would take this, more specifically a loss to Arkansas well? Its one thing to lose to UGA on the road, another to have same OL/WR/ and Defensive issues year in and out. Then to lose at Arkansas.

To the cocksure, know it all, windbags. We bleed orange. We are so close to turning the corner. And guess what Huepel helped created those expectations.

Those ok with status quo, or complacency can be ashamed.
Who said status quo? Keep building and developing towards a championship. I hated last night but happy with the progress we have made and look forward to continue progress. But, I am pissed that keep raising prices and the 10 percent talent fee is a joke.

Quoting the the NCAA rule book isn’t the rules? Oh ok… cry harder

Bru, our best receiver, really should be a #3 possession type receiver. Donte just doesn’t have the consistency in getting open or catching balls.
The rest are not good. Mike Matthews has the potential to be great, but he barely sees the field.

We just don’t have a game breaker.
This a 1000 percent. We need playmakers at WR. We have some pretty good ones but they are not elite.

In a four-team playoff, the logistics were different. Now we're talking 12 teams. Punishing the loser of a conference championship game for making the championship game will cause conferences to do away with championship games to protect their teams.

Not sure Indiana getting rolled by Ohio State eliminates them. Big 10 will still argue they're a 1-loss team. Kind of like to see Indiana win and give Ohio State a second loss.
I don't think a loss by OSU would eliminate them due to their name, but if OSU beats IU by more than 21, I think that would put them behind us in the polls. That would give us a little cushion in the case of an upset and someone gets in that no one was expected.
Just my thoughts.

It won’t. The committee values the conference game winner. Just like ND will never be a top 4 team

We are getting to the point where ole miss had a win over Georgia, and we beat bama. Who is bama’s best win? LSU? Who ole miss beat too, and we are finding out lsu isn’t good. And we beat bama head to head? And ole miss has an equally bad if not worse loss than we do.edit I’m an idiot, forgot bama beat Georgia. I still think head to head matters but we are toast.
Bama has beaten:
