Recruiting Football Talk VIII

It won't be as big of a loss that people think it is if he goes. He's OK, but he's not aggressive enough to field a top SEC defense.
You are off your rocker. We are gonna finish 10-2. The MAIN reason for that is the defense. The UGA game was bad. But my goodness, tell me the last time we went an entire season with only one team scoring 20 or more points on us? Our defense has been at the top of the SEC nearly all year. You have no clue what you are talking about.

So WR arent good.

Anyone know if Chaz is hurt? Seriously, 5 pts against Pea? Not being a dick. I am starting to be concerned, as we heat toward better teams.

Is verticality a word?

Did you watch the game? Lol

Igor was cooking and ZZ didn’t miss a shot until a half court heave to end 1st half.

We scored 103 and shot 64% FG, Chaz just didn’t have to or need to force the issue.

Debateable

We gave up 1200 yards to Arky, UK and MSST, besides UGA going for 450 last night.
It’s good, not great.

The two teams you mentioned above are also top 40 in total yards per game (UGA and Arky)

Lost to both. Bama is in the middle of both and we at least beat them, buttttttttt that was also at home.

It just shows we've kind of been lucky. The dam was going to break eventually

Well that, and it shows we struggle against top ranked offenses which the committee will look at.

“Can UTs defense hold up and win them back to back games in the playoffs?”

Every team that’s gonna be in the playoffs is ranked higher in total yards per game than any team we’ve played against. (Other than Arky)

Really comes down to road vs home. Georgia on the road isn’t the same as them in Athens. Every team is like this, Bama lost both games on the road.

It’s damn hard to win on the road in the SEC. And Nico isn’t Hooker. As a team we’re better and despite breaking in a first year starting QB we are sitting at 8-2. Georgia got some breaks in the 2nd half we didn’t and it snowballed.

My biggest concern is despite how good the DL is we simply haven’t been able to get sacks enough.

We have a top sec defense right now lol
They didn't play like it against Georgia. The key to beating Georgia is pressuring Beck. We didn't pressure Beck. Our front 4 couldn't overpower their banged-up OL, and Banks didn't make adjustments to bring blitzes. Instead, we let Beck sit in the pocket and dominate us. Could the offense have played better? Absolutely. Nico played well, IMO, but his WRs let him down a few times, and there were a few play calls that made me scratch my head. But the biggest reason we lost was the defense failed to get to Beck.

They punished UGA last week for doing that...

UGA got wrecked in that game. While many here think the Vols did the same, apparently the writers see that Vols being down 7 until under 3 mins in the game is a better loss.

Hope the CFP sees it that way as well.

Nico played great and he deserved his billing. defense carried the team most of the season but didn’t have a good night tonight. This was a time the offense should’ve carried and they didn’t. Heupel called a great game the 1st quarter and idk what happened after that.
I think some need to look up the definition of great.
He played well, definitely has improved and showed he’s learning.
He also missed on the deep pass again and was off target a little to a lot on some more.

Too many also equate success to good playcalling and unsuccessful drives to bad playcalling while ignoring execution completely.

1st quarter had on target passes, catches good blocking etc.

Further into the game the less we executed, so that was partly the reason,
And I thought he could of better also in dialing up some plays!

I just don't understand why some of our plays that worked in the past have just disappeared like a vampire at sunrise (shovel pass from early season to name one). . .

Same with some of our formations. There are formations that were tricky and worked well in '21 & '22 that have not been seen since. I don't buy that it's personnel related as those early rosters were gutted. Only difference in Golesh. I wonder why we don't still use them?

We were bad at the Shovel early in the season.

We stopped running some of the stack stuff because they started calling OPI everytime we did in 23.

Probably because the Oline was better in 21-22…simple football logic though
