Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I think a lot of people on here are taking the CFP at face value. Use logic and reason to pick the best teams to play for a national title. It should be easy. It should be simple. It is very easy to get locked in that argument. Especially if you love the sport and want to talk about the things that actually matter.

Unfortunately, the committee does not care about results, they do not care about ranking the best teams.

They are putting a TV product together. The same way that you would build a mini-series or movie trilogy that would be aired nationally.

They are not beholden to what happens on the field. They are analyzing spreadsheets and reports that have laid out for them what the most successful series of games would be for them to maximize revenue today, and to help in future media negotiations. That is it.

They are working backwards to find ways to slot the most desirable teams in the most advantageous spots, to produce the biggest numbers. The CFP is a TV product. The rankings show is a TV product.

You can tell that they don't give a crap because they have a few mouth pieces out there that float their BS. As others have pointed out, Dinich seems to have an in to soft release the rankings every week. Auerbach is the least skillful at veiling that she is a mouthpiece, but may be one of the loudest.

Floating things like this out there:

Attempting to normalize "taking head to head out of it." That is insight into what the committee is putting in front of media members to permeate the CFP public.

The rest get caught up in an idea that was floated out there, that really means nothing. "Best vs Most Deserving." It's a load of crap. It means nothing. They made that argument up to have talking points for TV and keep the majority of fans busy arguing about hypotheticals and pointing to data and ideas that mean absolutely nothing to the committee.

This is a TV product.

They have their A-List programs that people will always tune in for. They have sexy teams that are lightning rods. They have a pool of others to choose from. They'll continue mathing out what will be best for the executives at the very top, and tell everyone else to figure it out. Like they always do.

Somebody put that tweet in the FF forum so they can do there thing with Voltwitter. If that game doesn’t matter then what the **** are we even doing

I don't believe it is that simple. What are the scenarios? You think a one loss Indiana falls behind us? There are still a couple of games that could help those behind us make a jump. We don't have that. I'm very nervous about where they slotted us.
If we go put up 70 on tep it’ll get everyone talking. Let that momentum lead us to throttling Vandy and we will slide in.

TEP is slaw. We could have 20 sacks this game.
Are they worse than Kent St?

We said the same thing about Miss St, Kentucky...... Said we could put similar pressure on Georgia as Ole Miss did....... But we didn't. The pass rush has been broken for a while now.

Except Biden not only got called out but pressured into stepping out. When politics are less corrupt than SEC officiating IDK what has to happen. Nothing short of a commissioner with an agenda to change it will change it and that won’t happen anytime soon.
We need a Kenesaw Mountain Landis like in baseball in 1918.

I'm more nervous about UT looking "meh" in the last two games.

Of course things need to happen......but odd things happen every season. This year is even weirder.

If IU loses to OSU, and then just eeeks by a crappy Purdue team....yea, they could easily drop below UT.

I think we need Indiana to lose by 3 scores for them to drop far enough for us to get in. Dropping from 5 to 11 is within reason imo. We need to be atleast ranked 10 go get in.

We'll see, but the offense has been sputtering, even against some of the worst defenses in college football recently.

That's my worry as well.

The way this committee appears to be working I don't think it's remotely a given they would drop Indiana below us in that scenario. I think they would preserve the status quo for match ups they favor.

I believe politics are also at play here.......

How do they leave the Vols out if it’s about money then? We are the most loyal and one of the most well travelled group of fans in the country.

Because it's about footprints and the money those footprints bring in. We are a draw in our footprint. But there are many more tv sets in the biggest markets that Big 10 draws. Other than politics how the do you explain 4 Big10 teams in?
