Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Vegas set the O/U at 8.5 back in March and 9 in July. If we end up at 10-2 we overperformed, regardless of whether we make the playoffs or not. And yet, many will still be unhappy.

I remain true to my Dark Years vow that I will never again allow 8 or 9 win seasons to steal my joy, and certainly not 10. In the end, it's a game, and a vanishingly small percentage of us are affected by it in tangible ways. In a world where tomorrow may be challenged by lunatics with nukes, just enjoy a few more weekends of college ball, and don't let your joy be stolen *IF* the Vols are left out of the playoffs.

Kudos for taking an Adult view on this. I feel the same way. I can't be so tied up in this that a loss sends me in to a tail spin. It's a game to be enjoyed. Period. Far more important things to get worked up about. Even with that, don't sweat the small stuff.

Seems like we basically have to win out and win convincingly in both games with Nico actually throwing TD passes for us to make the playoffs.
Like I said for weeks and people wanted to argue.
You can't just win, you have to dominant the medicore teams on the schedule. We didn't do that.

I was trying to go back and find where we discussed expectations for the season in this thread or the one before it

the vast majority, like 99% of us, were good with 10-2. A lot of people were at 9-3, understanding that OU, Bama, Georgia would be tough. And not ruling out traditionally challenging games like Ark and UF.

some people were preemptively firing the staff if they went 8-4 or worse, which led to McGill idiot margining everyone.

all that to say, I think the posters here all had reasonable expectations. it just sucks being a fringe team coming down the stretch, given that we all though 10 wins would be a ticket to the playoff.

How much money do you normally spend on tail?

I was riding with @VolsDoc81TX.... 16-0 wasn't that unreasonable.

🤠

We are a fringe team because we lost to Arky. Given the same records, Bama always gets the call over us even with their loss to Vandy. We should not have lost to the Hogs to avoid this issue.

But I remain optimistic we will make it in. A lot of football still to be played. I will be pleased at 10-2 regardless of getting in or not.

I’m happy. Just disappointed in some of the performances

Nico vs Chattanooga (W 69-3)
22/28 314 yards 3 TD, 4 rushes 6 yards

Nico vs Kent State (W 71-0)
10/16 173 yards 1 TD, 5 rushes 31 yards

Give me your Nico stat line

do you think Heupel will pull him if we are up big or leave him in longer to make an offensive statement? do you think that even matters at this point?

Do you think we get in if we beat Arkansas, but lose to Bama instead? I don't think so. That loss may have a way of working itself out for the better.

(This is going off the idea that a 10-2 UT would have losses to UGA & Bama). . . I was at 8-4/9-3 preseason as the base, leaning to 9-3. . . I moved pretty quickly to 11-1 or 12-0 after watching 5 minutes of highlights from the first 2 fall camp practices, 😂

I think he goes for about 270. Remember, that Chattanooga stat line was just the 1st half, I think. . . one of the games he went for about 300 in the 1st half.

Bama win is doing the most work for us.

I even think we would have been better off with wins over Bama and UGA, and losses to OU and Ark

Hmm thanks.

I was talking about the posts we made in the Recruiting Forum thread specifically. I think that 10-3 to 11-2 spread accurately covers how most felt, though.
