What do we consider struggling? i posted something yesterday that showed we were 4th in the SEC in yards per attempted pass, 4th in the SEC in defensive pass rating, tied for 3rd in the SEC in Ints. Our defense was also 3rd in the SEC in points allowed per game.Wonder if we would go after Hank Poteat for DB coach is Martinez struggles
Maybe, just maybe you should try not complaining until something negative actually happens?I know I will but his group needs to show improvement
No excuse this year especially with the possibility of having the best dline in football to help his guys
Show me improvement and I’ll stop complaining
BVS demands that we pick a coach to obsess over. What do we consider struggling? i posted something yesterday that showed we were 4th in the SEC in yards per attempted pass, 4th in the SEC in defensive pass rating, tied for 3rd in the SEC in Ints. Brandon Turnage was one of the most athletic players that we have had…… He was always lost and out of position. It is why he failed here and also failed at Alabama. If this guy wins the job then we have to trust that no one was able to outperform him.I dont know, but wouldnt safety - the QB of the backfield. Require someone to know ins and outs of the playbook? Ergo, someone who take the 2D and apply it, spatially would excel in that spot?
Now, to me when time comes where more athletic dudes catch up. You gotta play them too. It cant be Brooks playing 90 minutes or whateves.
LSU has a top 5 offensive line with a very talented QB and DEFENSE. No step back. They've recruited better than Ole Miss as well. I have LSUOle Miss has split the past 4 meetings with LSU.
They won last year. LSU is taking a step back this season perhaps while Ole Miss is supposed to be better.
They’ll be favored to win against LSU.
Ole Miss success will likely depend on how their transfers fair. We like many other teams used the portal to complement our roster, while Ole Miss went mercenary mode (not as much Colorado) so on paper they look good, but some analysts think they’re overrated. I could see them being a playoff contender at best, or 8-4 at worse. LSU will be just as good or better than last year’s team with their OL and improved defense.LSU has a top 5 offensive line with a very talented QB and DEFENSE. No step back. Cry more. This is the reason Saban stepped away too.
Sorry guys, everyone can pay for players now, and you don't get to stash great players for 3 years just because the rules won't let them leave.
Jackass
While I do think what you're saying is accurate and true. athleticism CAN make up for some deficiencies.Brandon Turnage was one of the most athletic players that we have had…… He was always lost and out of position. Recruiting has been above average in last couple cycles. One reason this situation is frustrating is we fire the starting 4, then, replace with status quo - as perceived.
Other teams, imo, that recruit at higher level don't fear playing talented freshmen. To me, that's GA, FL (historically at DB), LSU, Bama.
It may be to get to that elite, elite level we will need to show consistent W/L, BUT within that give our talented guys PT. I'm not saying starting. I'm saying develop a healthy rotation like we do at LB and DT.
I see AP's point. It isn't logical to recruit these guys and have your starters play 85 minutes. Worse, play those guys 85 minutes and STILL give up a lot of points.
There has to be a nice middle ground. I believe Martinez is a decent coach. However, like other older coaches - may need a DB recruiting 'coordinator', officially.
You gotta be able to develop. But you gotta be athletic. And do both, well. Right now I give us a B in both.
