I think it’s because the 4 byes are conference champs but one of those is Boise State, who’s ranked 11 but gets the bye (4 seed) so that pushes everyone else back a spot or two.

It would be Texas Oregon SMU Boise right? If the final ranking was this one?

Correct. Except swap Oregon (1 seed) and TX (2 seed).

Correct, UGA is either in top 4 with a 1st Rd bye or they have 3 losses and are on the fringe and we jump up even more to host.

Sure, they can say that now when these rankings don’t matter. But once the rubber meets the road, I will be shocked if they pair teams up unless it’s absolutely unavoidable.

These rankings definitely won’t hold. I think we see at least one upset on Saturday (not us!) that changes a bunch of these. Call me crazy, but I think that upset is Miami. Syracuse is always a weird team to play and easily overlooked. I also wouldn’t sleep on USC against ND. And I have a weird feeling about Indiana. They just got shellacked by OSU and I’m wondering if that took a bunch of wind out of their sails.

Disagree. If Texas loses to A&M and misses the championship game, their resume is worse than ours. They will fall below us. They won’t have a single thing to point to as a good win.
