Recruiting Football Talk VIII

One interesting point, will tomorrow be Nico’s first “cold” weather game? High tomorrow is 44 and not sure if he has played in this type of weather being from Southern Cal and the bowl game was in Fla. Think he will handle it but worth noting (imo)
It shouldnt really matter. 44 feels good when your playing. It's cold when you're riding the pine though.

Here's the crazy part of this... We're averaging 37.4 points per game right now... the offense is pretty stinkin' dominant and has done that while leaving a ton of points on the field.

We're in strong contention to win the whole dang thing and this team hasn't even shifted into 4th gear yet.
Thanks to cupcakes. This offense just isn’t clicking against even okay competition. No negavol, just isn’t. If Nico hit just a couple wide open plays or a receiver made a play we would be undefeated.

How we play against Kent state and UTEP doesn’t count for anything. If we’re going to make any kind of a run in the playoff, the defense will need to rediscover its peak form from earlier in the season and the offense will need to play at a higher level than they’ve shown so far against any SEC team.
Being down Pili hurts us. I think we have to understand that the defense won't be as good as it was. Hopefully the offense can pick it up to make up the difference.

1994 was 65-0 in Nashville. I was a junior in high school and went with my cousin and his girlfriend. Her mom was a huge Vanderbilt fan. She was also our ride. I don’t think she spoke a word to us on the way home.

The pregame shoving was at Neyland in 1991. I think Vanderbilt tried to run through our warmups.
😂 and thanks for the correction and info. I was at that '94 game, too, with my brothers. 9 TDs and a safety! Every Vandy game I've ever attended was in Neyland-West. One of my bros was at the '85 sugar-cube-celebration Vandy trouncing in Neyland.

I think Nico is in the same improvement progression as Hendon was. I believe it takes more than one season for the QB to understand and execute this O well, especially a young QB. He still panics at times instead of going through his progressions to find the open guy right in front of his vision, he does not feel the pass rush and avoid it at times, etc.

It's a natural progression for even the elites that needs to happen. We will all know it when he gets there. That said, I believe he will be an All American next season if he stays healthy.
I wish he would make his easy "take-what-they-give-him" pass play his second read every single time. I feel he progresses through is options from greediest to second greediness and on down the line. I'd rather he look to see if his first read is there then immediately look for his safety valve throw. This offense hums best when it's moving the ball methodically. No need to look for the over the top throw so often.

Scouted Vandy.

Their advantages:
Better Kicker and Punter.
They don't turn it over.
They don't beat themselves with penalties.
They are a well-coached team that is very opportunistic. Opposing teams have a habit of turning it over in their own territory (Vandy almost always capitalizes with TD's). Teams inexplicably miss easy field goals against them. Teams get overly ambitious against them and go for it on 4th down even in their own territory. This leads to points for Vandy.

Our advantages:
Overall talent and speed.
Boo Carter in the return game.
Jermod McCoy can neutralize their top WR.
Our TE's should be targeted early and often. Their best defender is their STAR, and they blitz a lot.
D. Sampson. No one stops him.
The deep ball will be there. If we hit two, we could blow them out.

Vandy has won every game they won the Turnover battle. This is the biggest factor of the game. They need teams to make mistakes (turnovers, missed FG's, Downs, penalties). Based on our season, we will commit penalties and turn it over at least once. Provided we respect them and take the points they give, we should be fine. If we force things, it will be a 60-minute game.

Their strengths are our weaknesses. TE, stretching the field, and mobile QB. Always hear speed and talent are our +. Makes me nervous how we play in big games.

That said, we dont lose to Andy.

Absolutely, my mom went through plateaus where she would decline, then level off then decline, then level off. She was diagnosed around 2012 and passed in 2020, right before Covid really hit. I tried to see her every day. My dad was her care giver. He would bring her to my business to pick me up for lunch almost every day.

I/dad went to several seminars put on by the Alzhiemer's Association that were very helpful and I would encourage family members to attend some. Little things that help you and the dementia patient.

According to statistics, many time the caregiver passes before the one with the condition. We enrolled my mom in a program that a church put on for dementia patients. It was sort of an adult daycare. My mom really enjoyed it because they did activities that were designed for dementia patients. Crafts and stuff like that. It was good for my mom and definitely gave my dad a break.

Will definitely be praying for you and your family.
Thank you🙏🏻
Yes!! To all that. Did the same with my dad.

Our history in big/important away games is the only reason I’m nervous. Pavia is good, but I think our defense can hold him in check as long as it’s not the one that showed up against UGA.

This is a fun moment:

A very short clip of the fight Vandy started at the beginning of the broadcast.

Pearce and Josephs will have to just play contain and compromise on sacks. I would play my ends wide, and bring in a backer to blitz
LSU's defense just went after Pavia. They hit him a lot and made him rush a lot of throws. I guess they thought he was too limited to do much damage with his legs, so they put pressure on him. He only had one decent run and they caught him pretty quick. They've been bringing in their backup to run option plays and he's pretty quick, so the defense will definitely have to be disciplined when he's out there, but I wouldn't be surprised if they try to go after Pavia since it worked so well for LSU.
