Recruiting Football Talk VIII

If we could just simply execute the relatively easy wide open plays that are there EVERY FREAKING GAME...we would be scoring 40 a game and be undefeated..

It is the weirdest thing I've ever seen...just seems to be a series of unfortunate events, but I really think that what has happened, is that early on a few weird things happened, and from there literally everybody got in their head...I don't think it's physical ability/talent related...I 100% believe it is just a mental thing.

It's like the whole offense is just waiting/expecting for something strange to happen...and it becomes a self fulfilling thing.

Confidence is a strange thing.
I agree

Luckily they've for the most part been able to overcome the weirdness.

Kinda goes back to last year...it's like when you have a QB that will have perplexing overthrows it just throws everyone off. Then again, the drops have been almost as bad going back to the Keyton drop against UVA.

Still feels like, aside from the first quarter against UTEP, we had started to turn a corner recently.

Just beat Vandy for Christ's sake...

Here's the crazy part of this... We're averaging 37.4 points per game right now... the offense is pretty stinkin' dominant and has done that while leaving a ton of points on the field.

We're in strong contention to win the whole dang thing and this team hasn't even shifted into 4th gear yet.

Well in the SEC we've eclipsed 30 once.

25
14
23 (OT)
24
28
33
17

Its been average.

Massively skewed numbers. Our usual OOC blowouts are helping us tremendously. What are averaging in conference play?

How we play against Kent state and UTEP doesn’t count for anything. If we’re going to make any kind of a run in the playoff, the defense will need to rediscover its peak form from earlier in the season and the offense will need to play at a higher level than they’ve shown so far against any SEC team.

Almost 27 hours away until kickoff in what will be the biggest game we have played in in quite some time. Not because it’s Vandy, but because of the repercussions of the outcome of the game for our team and our program. This is the next step in the climb back to greatness for our storied program. We have to win to continue to climb upwards to the top. This will be the first game that I am legit nervous about in quite a while.

Scouted Vandy.

Their advantages:
Better Kicker and Punter.
They don't turn it over.
They don't beat themselves with penalties.
They are a well-coached team that is very opportunistic. Opposing teams have a habit of turning it over in their own territory (Vandy almost always capitalizes with TD's). Teams inexplicably miss easy field goals against them. Teams get overly ambitious against them and go for it on 4th down even in their own territory. This leads to points for Vandy.

Our advantages:
Overall talent and speed.
Boo Carter in the return game.
Jermod McCoy can neutralize their top WR.
Our TE's should be targeted early and often. Their best defender is their STAR, and they blitz a lot.
D. Sampson. No one stops him.
The deep ball will be there. If we hit two, we could blow them out.

Vandy has won every game they won the Turnover battle. This is the biggest factor of the game. They need teams to make mistakes (turnovers, missed FG's, Downs, penalties). Based on our season, we will commit penalties and turn it over at least once. Provided we respect them and take the points they give, we should be fine. If we force things, it will be a 60-minute game.

- So #2 UConn went 0-3 in Maui, losing all games to unranked teams.
- #4 Auburn won Maui and absolutely looks like a 1-seed in March.
- Unranked Louisville, who we rekt in Louisville, is in the final of Battle 4 Atlantis today.
- #3 Zags lost earlier this week to an unranked.
- #5 Iowa State lost to Auburn in a close game.
- Lunardi now has Vols as a 1-seed in March

Vols should move to at least 5, possibly 4 next week.

I think Nico is in the same improvement progression as Hendon was. I believe it takes more than one season for the QB to understand and execute this O well, especially a young QB. He still panics at times instead of going through his progressions to find the open guy right in front of his vision, he does not feel the pass rush and avoid it at times, etc.

It's a natural progression for even the elites that needs to happen. We will all know it when he gets there. That said, I believe he will be an All American next season if he stays healthy.

Good grief. I can’t take it anymore. The Deacon is going to drive this once-proud program into the ground.

Deserved unless proven differently on the court. Like what I see. Auburn is also legit.

One interesting point, will tomorrow be Nico’s first “cold” weather game? High tomorrow is 44 and not sure if he has played in this type of weather being from Southern Cal and the bowl game was in Fla. Think he will handle it but worth noting (imo)

So, you are saying he needs more pocket presents

KenPom #2 behind only Aubie at the moment. Of course it's very early.

UConn and Vandy last year were in the 50s. Undoubtably they did outside winter practices the last two years and have scrimmaged. I don't think it'll be that big of a deal. Not like it's gonna be freezing or anything.

😂 That was a huge dumb mistake the “smart” team made in Neyland a different year, if I remember right. Someone here will remember.

I seem to remember seeing the commode doors making the huge dumb mistake of trying to start some shoving as we came out of our tunnel one yearly. Might have been part of the same logo-stomping fool thing they regretted.

1994 was our greatest margin of victory (64 points) so far!

1994 was 65-0 in Nashville. I was a junior in high school and went with my cousin and his girlfriend. Her mom was a huge Vanderbilt fan. She was also our ride. I don’t think she spoke a word to us on the way home.

The pregame shoving was at Neyland in 1991. I think Vanderbilt tried to run through our warmups.

@Enki_Amenra twice baked sweet potatoes. that is a confection.
My mom makes this stuff with a brown sugar/pecan topping on the sweet potatoes. It's so good. It's the kind of good that makes you want to take a picture of it, not to share on social media, but to know you have it to look at when you feel bad, 😂

They also ran through the Tennessee warmups in '79 when Fulmer was their OC.
