Recruiting Football Talk VIII

It’s funny because Sketchers use to be a laughing stock, and now their cool
I'm surprised to hear this, because they were pretty cool in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Shoes like them, Doc Marterns, and a lot of skater shoes were always selling like hotcakes and at a premium in West Town Mall at Journeys.

More lawsuits coming. More Ls for NCAA as well. They can’t do this without approval from Congress.

$600 or more. Why even set the bar there? Why not just say all and be done with it? It is going to get destroyed in court anyway. SCOTUS already told them they can't do this crap.

The $600 threshhold definitely hit my radar.

It is the IRS limit for contractors to have to report 1099 earnings per contractee.

That's my guess - just an excuse to go extra lowball and get to micromanage.

I'm equally as befuddled though - that document mentioned salary caps and such - is any of that even remotely legal when talking NIL and not something like an agreed upon CBA based on salaries? I'm sure I'm missing something, but that seemed off.

Interestingly, it aligns with the BS $600 rule for 3rd party transaction networks the IRS laid out last year. I doubt that’s a coincidence.

Of course something is off. It’s the NCAA.

The idea that you can compare the monetization and NIL value of a top 100 recruit to a collective to an ad sponsorship at a car dealership is ridiculous. The moment you said players could sell their market value you completely miss the market of being a winning player to a fan base. You cannot compare that or cap that in relation to cookie sales.
