You very well may be right, I've just never heard that rule.I think the NCAA rule book says “blindside,” but the definition is back towards your own endzone + something other than straight on. Again, I’m going from memory and not trying to be disagreeable.
Blindside is typically from anywhere the person being blocked can't see it coming, regardless of relation to the goal line. Lots of blindside happen when a blocker is running away from his own goal line and the defender is coming across the field.
I know peel back blocks have a criteria where you can't be moving parallel to or toward your own goal line, but that's for a hit below the waist.
Could be I just don't know the rule though. Either way, MM was definitely close to getting a flag but I think the official did the right thing by holstering it.
