Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I think after a couple of years of this, we'll end up with an 8 team playoff with no auto bids.

The whole format is the "sounds good in theory" format. It sounds good in theory to let a G5 team in there. And then watching them lose by 3 scores after getting a 1st round bye a couple of times will dissuade that idea.
Much more likely to go to 16 than 8 IMO

How the hell is Florida able to flip many 4 star players including a 4 star guy from Texas…. 3 straight losing seasons… This year they’re a wonderful 7-5… AUBURN… great class and like 3-4 straight losing seasons as well with them flipping guys from teams as well.
Money and playing time. This isn’t difficult. Everyone has the ability to pay more for any individual player they want.

Okay, so which teams should we root for in the championship games?

Oregon over Penn State

Texas over uga. Does an uga loss put them out of the playoffs or just below us? If they are out, is bama in?

Does it matter in the Big 12?

We want Boise State to win to keep out any other SEC teams correct?

I think that’s it. Notre dame will be #5 in the playoffs, correct?

I'm curious to see how the committee ranks the loser of the big 10 and SEC. Both are still in but do they drop any in the rankings. If so, we root for Oregon and Texas.

Continued success relies on good recruiting. Why was Bama good for so long? Recruiting. Why has Georgia been so successful? Recruiting. I'm enjoying the now, but in order for the good times to continue, we have to recruit well.

I think you're correct in the 4 team playoff, pre-NIL era, pre-current portal rules era. 12 team playoff, transfer any time rules and NIL have caused a level of parity that has never existed in CFB.

Recruiting will always be important but I doubt we continue to see the same 3-4 teams with a talent monopoly. That makes evaluations and development more important than star rankings (it always has been unless you just can't recruit but different discussion.

I like our chances of sustained success based on those factors.

Something I read and agree with:

Locks for playoff spot (regardless of what happens next week)
Oregon, Texas, Penn St, ND, TN, Ohio St, Indiana, SMU-------8 teams
Winner of Boise St/UNLV and Iowa St/AZ St------2 more teams

In with a win
Georgia (might still get in with a loss)
Clemson

Needs help (Clemson to lose or Georgia to lose big)
Miami
Bama
SC
Ole Miss

Man it feels good that objectively this is the most successful season since...2001? 1998?

First goal achieved.
Considering we lost the SECC and missed the title game in ‘01 I would say the best since ‘98….compounded by our long journey in the wilderness just 4 years ago.
