Recruiting Football Talk VIII

The morphing of this thing the past decade is plainly obvious. Remember in 2014 when the stated objective was to pick the four best teams? They don't even use that phraseology anymore. The CFP has slowly turned it into we will pick whoever the hell we want and can get away with for tv and vegas. With stupid and meaningless statistics and terms like 'the eye test', game control, SOS, margin of victory, quality wins, and bad losses, they convince and distract the fans to the fact that they are picking whoever they damn well please and making excuses for their rationale. Quit trying to figure out any reasonable explanation beyond that and you'll be happier.
Matchups for tv and gambling, plain and simple.
I'll be fine with what they do, so long as it benefits us.

Sometimes it's not about TV and gambling though. They didn't want Cinci or TCU in the playoffs before.

OSU in Neyland is better than the reverse of that. OSU doesn't even care about playing for a title right now, why would TV want to go to the shoe?

Brazell, Nimrod, Matthews, Staley. Do Spillman, Webb, and Leacock count?

The three in '25 will help. But we lose a ton of snaps, and leadership. With all this offense is asked to do, we will need a portholer.
Should have Squirrel, Brazzell, Nimrod, Webb, Leacock, Spillman, Matthews, Staley, and incoming Smith, Jackson, and Dodson.

Would expect us to swing at a top portal WR.

Much more likely to go to 16 than 8 IMO
I could see that, except that they can't really do that without getting rid of the conference championships, which they seem to have a borderline irrational attachment to.

No conference championship game, 16 teams, seeded top to bottom is better than what we have this time. But I would still much prefer 8.

I know the rationale is that they want more games for more money, no matter what. But Football is not basketball. I think there are many downsides to having your eventual national championship playing 16 or even 17 games. The national championship coming down to who has fewer players hurt is so lame to me.

guess that was the plan to bring Petrino back as OC, let him get acclimated, then Pittman retires and he steps back in ... could have seen this a mile away if true.
I work for an Arky fan. According to him Petrino has indicated he's happy being a coordinator...... He may not want a coaching gig, doesn't think Arky wants him as head coach.

You'd be shocked how many 'bandwagon' fans change their support every day.
This is extremely true, especially in Professional Sports. I'm a diehard Cowboys, Lakers and Dodgers fan when they suck and when they win.

I see individuals everyday that were damn 49ers fans last season and now all of sudden wearing a Detriot Lions jersey or hat.🤦
