Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Texas just isn't that good of a team. They've had the easiest possible sec schedule and got lucky that Michigan is down this year. I think uga will beat them easily just like last time.
Easiest, yes, but by a small margin and they still have a tough schedule, nationally.

They make up for it by having the best winning margin in conference, by quite a bit. +14 is a FG better than Ole Miss. 7 pts better than Bama. 5 better than USCjr. 8 pts better than us and UGA.

They're not a dominant team like we've seen in some years past, but they've done really well and have controlled most games handily. Not even sure how to take "isn't that good of a team" haha.

But yeah...specific matchup vs UGA didn't look great 1st time around. But UGA also just looked awful.

Hoping Tex does us a solid! Eff UGA...

His family member that posted on here said Kaiden and Freeze were fractious at the end of their time together.
Not to be that person, but Iā€™m a female and this is how we are. Everything okay? Because I havenā€™t seen you post much lately? I have enough with worrying about Wezzie on my plate. I do also, as we all do. Your posts have kept me entertained for years, hell, I had to cry uncle on something in the FF years ago.

Single Season New Record Holder
Rushing Yards: 1485 (previous record 1464 by Stephens in 2001)
Rushing TDs: 22 (previous record 18 by Gene McEver in 1929)

Records still in reach to break
Career Rushing TDs: 37 by Gene McEver (Dylan has 35)
Career Rushing Yards: 3078 by Travis Henry (Dylan has 2486)
Single-Season Attempts: 291 by Travis Stephens (Dylan has 256)

To win the Natty we'd have to play another 4 games...

Idk how itā€™ll impact the regular season. NFL is at 14 team playoff and I enjoy the NFL playoffs but also they only have 32 teams in total so that makes every regular season game important. I guess weā€™ll see how it plays out.

Iā€™m content with anything from 12-16 cause the Vols will have a chance for sure every year to make a run. The way our team is trending we have a chance every year even if itā€™s 4-8 teams so 12-16 makes it even easier on us. IMO 12-16 is better than less teams in because more teams are fighting til the last week to get in. Look at how crazy the last 3 weeks have been. This has been one of the most entertaining CFB seasons in history and Iā€™d be willing to bet the viewership numbers probably reflect that too. In years past, it would be less important games this late in the season.

Also there were more cases of players sitting out or transferring out before the regular season even ends if they knew their team wasnā€™t making the playoff. Not a lot but it happened. Now itā€™s less likely that happens with contending teams since 12 teams are in and about 20 teams are fighting for those spots in the last few weeks of the season. Idk if Iā€™ve seen any transfer/opt out news from contenders yet. But those are all valid concerns you listed and weā€™ll see how it plays out I guess.
Well like I said, this year has been a ton of fun. And last Saturday was outstanding.. And rivalry weekend was as good as it's been in a while with so many games being competitive and meaningful.

But... In still skeptical to some degree. I think 12 is plenty. Just change the format some.

It seems consensus that the Vols will host a CFP game. Everyone thinks it, from pole voters, journalists, sports talk shows and football fans in general. At this point, it will be a surprise to everyone if we don't host and will be a scam by the committee to reward another program based off their name and nothing else.

Ohio State @ Neyland in a playoff game may be the biggest game to hit Knoxville in generations.
I don't see it as a consensus? I think it's pretty split from what I've seen. Sure, the polls have it that way... But I'm far from convinced it's a lock. Possible.. Yup.

But I don't think anyone should be surprised either way. The only thing that seems pretty well accepted is that OSU and Tennessee are the 8 or 9 seed.

Last week there were many people here declaring flatly that if we lost to Vandy, we didn't "deserve" to be in the playoffs. By definition. Because that's just pitiful. And "it didn't matter" if we would have still ended up as a 3-loss team with the head-to-head over Bama.

In the first part of our game, they were shrieking that we suck. Anybody who loses to Vandy sucks. It's a joke that anyone who loses to Vandy thinks for one second they deserve to be in the playoffs.

Bama lost to Vandy.

If you talk that kind of trash about our team, do not come back days later justifying Bama in the playoffs.

Bama lost to two 6-6 teams. Including Vandy.

Fun fact - I mentioned earlier I've been working on some CFB player analytics for a while. It's still a work in progress and I'm making adjustments to some of the data transformations / cleaning / modelling / etc., but however I slice it Kitselman keeps coming up a top 10 TE in college football and the best we've had in the years I'm tracking (2015+).

He's above average as a receiver (adding about 1 ppg above the average TE), but elite in run blocking, best in the country by my numbers.

Regular Season recap for Nico's first year starting

Rankings are in SEC:
4th in passing completion at 65.7%
7th in passing yards at 2512
tied for 6th in passing completions with 199
6th in passing TDs at 19
4th in INT% with 1.7% (SEC average was 2.5%, lower is better)
5th in yards per attempt at 8.3
4th in QB rating at 152.7

Pretty damn good start I'm hoping to see him make big strides next year.
39 total TDs responsible for in a single season is a record I think he could break as well as Peyton's most total yards by a QB (3799)

I hit a personal wallā€¦nothing clinical. Compounded with being too invested in our teamā€™s fortunes and (lately) unexpected drama with my daughter over the election, has me taking a relative step back. Considering my considerable posting history, that still puts me in the ā€œhas no lifeā€ category. šŸ˜‰ Thanks for caring. Posters like yourself are comforting with the board losing Oda.

Texas nearly did as well.

If we were to WIN against Georgia Tech in 8 overtimes, I Guarantee it would be counted against us as a loss and we would have dropped several spots in the rankings.
It already happened with the Florida game. You'd think we lost... And now going to OT against us is a big plus for Florida... So.. Yeah. There is no winning.
Just different levels of losing.

How bad do you want to lose, is the only question.

I respect that, I had to delete some. I hated this last election cycle and glad itā€™s over. I miss your special ā€˜brandā€™ on here, but I get it. Life can be crap and is. Weā€™ll see you when we do.

They should definitely drop imo.

I'd have it OSU #7 seed, UT #8 seed, UGA #9 seed.

UGA loses and we host IU.

Perfect situation for us for Saturday's games...

22 UNLV upsets 11 Boise State (UNLV would 100% be seeded behind us and Boise State would drop out of the playoffs)
Army beats 17 Tulane (just to be safe that 2 group of 5 conference champs don't sneak in...other than Boise Tulane is the highest rated G5 team still in the mix)
18 Iowa State vs 16 Arizona State (honestly doesn't matter winner is going to most likely be seeded below us regardless)
3 Texas beats 7 Georgia (if Georgia wins then both teams likely are seeded ahead of us, Georgia loses and there's a chance they with 3 losses fall behind us)
1 Oregon beats 4 Penn State (just need Penn State to get dog walked they're only in this game out of sheer luck and weak schedule)
12 Clemson upsets 9 SMU (a 3 loss ACC champ that just lost to a 3 loss SEC team won't be seeded above us, SMU wins and they will get a top 4 seed)

I actually think SMU will beat Clemson... and with the BS top 4 going to conference champs regardless of record that might be the better outcome...cause we know SEC/BIG 10 champs are the 1 & 2 seed regardless of who wins...SMU and Boise State would be the next 2, but if either loses I think Big 12 champ gets one.

Ohio State and Notre Dame would be the only 2 at large teams I could see getting seeded ahead of us...I know people don't think conference champion losers will be punished...but I just don't think a 2 loss Penn State, 3 loss Georgia, or a 2 loss SMU would stay ahead of us in seeding so that's why I'm wanting the above outcomes.

I got into it with some family and close friends, even made myself look like an ass with a comment I made to a very close friend of mine. So I did some soul searching and decided to take a lot of time off from anything political. Which has honestly been a very positive experience. I even took a further step, not because of politics but more so to see if I can better myself further, and deleted all social media. That was an even better, more positive experience. Iā€™m glad to see youā€™ve taken some steps towards finding that peace as well and I hope it works out.

Also, just for laughs, now anytime someone sends me something political, I send them this gem and explain that this is my current thought process:
