Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Florida definitely overpaying for the class. AP suggested they’re overpaying kids by hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Then @secking, aka rusty, just posted this on his forum

Ryan Montgomery buzz sticking with UGA

if he stays with UGA, he REALLY wanted to be in this class. I’ll tell you that.
They’re using the buyout money to pay for kids who never played a snap of college football. Will be interesting to see if sun belt Billy goes 6-6 again if all these kids stay.

Wish I was rich you definitely wouldn’t hear anything about issues with “over paying” transfers and recruits. No price tag for winning championships. All of the businesses and national exposure the university would get would easily pay for itself

That loss was 100% on us. It had little to do with Arkansas.
That's not true at all. UT played poorly. Correct. Arkansas also played their best game of the season. The QB made multiple big-time throws where the coverage was good but the throw was prefect. The defense also executed a good gameplan. As poorly as we played, we still win that game if Arkansas plays like they normally did this season.

It’s like the Yankees though. Sure, the Dodgers won, but they aren’t winning every year. Money doesn’t mean your team is automatically going to win. You need just enough and leadership to win. If any program understands the importance of leadership, it’s the University of Tennessee. Money helps, but people make the world go round.

We did this to ourselves losing to Arkansas.
These analysis just seem lazy to me. Yes that is true. And Ole Miss didn't even get in because they lost to a worse UK team at home. And Alabama has to travel for their first game because they lost to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma (both about on par with Arkansas). We are better than Arkansas but played poorly on the road in an SEC stadium. This season has proven that it's not that easy to run the table in the SEC.

100% this. Taylen Green had the game of his life.

There is no “over paying”. I think it’s hard to comprehend the wealth of a billionaire much less a multi billionaire. Michigan just paid 10 mil for a QB and it was said that was funded by the Ellison family. 10 million is much much less than .01% of their net worth. An average individual would be much more upset about losing their wallet with a $100 bill in it than they would be about losing $10 million. I’m surprised no one has offered Saban or Meyer some ridiculous amount of money (yet).

Most people don't understand the wealth of $1 million

$10 million is a tax or some type of write off.

If you have 9 figures, the annual interest in just a plebian savings account like us moran have is $3M US. My maths is likely wrong.
