Recruiting Football Talk VIII

With all the bitching and complaining that i have done this year- i am so proud of this team. (I apologize).

Tied for second place in the SEC is nothing to scoff at. They have accomplished so much and they are amazing. Once the miscues, near misses and the undisciplined penalties are squared away- this team will be unstoppable.

I love my Vols and hope for a National Championship!

No matter what, this was a successful season. No one can say that, before the season, they would not have been happy with 10-2, wins over Alabama, Florida, and Oklahoma, and a CFP appearance.

And this is Year 4. It’s only going to get better.

This OL was recently selected as semifinalists for the Joe Moore award, the award selected by former OLinemen. You know, people who actually know what they’re talking about.

But I get it, we always have to have somebody to fire. And the opinions about Banks and Martinez don’t look so good now, so next coach up.
I love when the ball watchers give their opinion about the finer points of the game.

i think my biggest issue is - not bvs- but seeing that they are right there and so close to taking the next step but the dumb mental mistakes keep popping up. that drives me crazy and makes me type dumb stuff in the game threads lol
Second season time. A time when the team has the opportunity to move on from those very mental mistakes and execute like we all know they can.

Go Vols!

Yeah 3-4 years of really good OL play (3 straight in the running for best OL in the country)...

And the guy needs a litmus test 😅 Oh and here come the bluechippers...5* OT, etc...

Literally just announced the SEC POTY is a Samp...no RB does that without a really good OL. All respect to Sampson.
It is scheme why we have the running numbers we do. We will get those numbers with anyone coaching. How you determine good ol coaches are pass protection; pass off, pick up, awareness, FUNDAMENTALS( posturing up, feet stance, hand placement, get off. These directly correlate to coaching. Some of These have been bad for years.

You have to have some charisma at the college level to recruit. I don’t doubt that he would get some talent, but coaches who don’t want to play the game aren’t very successful. That doesn’t even include relationships with your boosters.

Yep. Takes a fool to believe that all it takes to recruit is to flash a few Super Bowl rings. Way more to it than that.

I agree, he would be terrible in CFB. Compared to a NFL gig the CFB workload is huge upgrade and I doubt he would be willing to put in the time or effort or the pay cut.

Bill Belichick has interviewed for the UNC head coaching job. That could make recruiting the Tarheel state interesting if he were take the job.

I hope he gets the job, he will suck. He is a more abrasive and less personable version of Saban. If Saban couldn't cut it in today's college game then Belichick will really bomb.

Why not judge him on this year? If you have a clue you can see that our o-line has been playing lights out the last few games, just at the right time. Just keep watching the ball.
i would agree, except for 2 things....PENALTIES......and i still see Nico ducking and dodging waay too much in pass protection.

part of that, i will concede, is due to Nico sometimes not being a little more patient...and sometimes, he and the line could benefit from some play calls that didn't take 10 minutes to develop. They have started to do more of that of late, and i think that's one of the bigger reasons Nico's numbers have started to improve. less emphasis on the home runs...more emphasis on singles and doubles.

but in merit, i don't think the O Line has been as awful as many believe. they still have things to work on...Penalties is my biggest gripe....be it illegal linemen downfield, holding, false starts etc....that crap has to stop....absolute drive killers at times this year. and i'd say that is one of the primary reasons we lost the arkansas game.....and it certainly played a roll in the UGA game.

Hmm at Tennessee they found most all and punished then. And when it happened in Knoxville some in the media tried to make is sound so terrible. I am so laughing it’s comical. GBO
They wanted to give us the death penalty for a little mustard and a golf ball, for TU they changed the call. TU is starting to approach Alabama hate territory for me. I am sending Sark a case of Jack for an early Christmas presence, the Ghost of Christmas Past.
