Recruiting Football Talk VIII

If this is accurate it means
Tall order to beat OSU on the road and then Oregon.

But if we do it... Definitely looking at a step down in competition for the semi-finals.

I'll go ahead and pick it right now. Clemson beats Penn State at home.

Andy Staples is well connected and reasonable and fair. I’m a little surprised by this, but I did see Trey Wallace post something this morning that has something to consider.

Hotel space in State College is minimal for that weekend and Penn St also has graduation ceremonies that Saturday.
I drove to Penn St 20 years back and the last 100 miles was a 2 lane curvy mountain road - has that changed? Back then the hotel options were challenging also. What route do folks typically take to visit that campus?

I’m hoping politics is in our favor here.

1. If Bama is out, UT is given a home game as consolation.

2. Knoxville has way more hotels availability than State College, and Penn St is having graduation ceremonies on campus that weekend.
Ward can’t even get the rankings right on a weekly basis. You think they are thinking about logistical impediments in all this. I don’t think so.

PSU at home, will be not much different for us. Introduce any foreign crowd, greater than a HS stadium size (larger than Vandy), with greater than 75% Vols fans. I dunno.

Will we get a fair whistle? Will we forget to play defense? Will OL continue rolling Frosty's great nephew down the proverbial hill?

two teams are quite similar, trying to be objective. Obvs we played SEC schedule. All things being equal:

-They played ranked teams, and lost.
- Play in front of 100K
- Have a pro TE, 3K passer, and throw ball around.
-Want to play ball control
- Defense is very good
- Penalized 45 yards pg
- Special teams isn't great
- Have turned ball over

Have they played our speed? Can we generate turnovers? will our penn state dc be able to stop their scheme?

Im skeptical. But i've been skeptical all year, and we're 10-2.
I wonder how they will decide on what conference refs to use? That will make a difference. I can't see them using BIG 10 or SEC refs. But, nothing would surprise me.

A lot to take in this morning but I keep going back to the Arkansas game.

Roughing the punter might be the most consequential penalty in program history up to this point. Yes, we are still in, but erase that penalty and we are either SEC champions with a bye or are hosting round 1 with an easy path.
A good win for Texas, but a bad loss for TN.

This goes against almost all of the others I’ve seen especially the Committee guru Heather Dinich who still has us going to Columbus.
If this did come true and we get to host, I would be overcome with Big Orange 🍊 happiness.
It's not gonna be this. They moved OSU ahead of ND , why? and dropped psu 5 spots... Behind 3 teams that didn't lose a one possession game against the #1 team team in their conf title game....

No shot at this.

Jmo, but I think everyone needs to start talking more about ND and how they should always be the 12th seed if they make the playoffs.

No conference championship.

Best win against a 8-4 A&M team.

That’s like rewarding a kid for taking a **** in front of the class.

My final prediction is Tennessee plays on the road in Happy Valley against Penn State. Frustrating that we won’t get a home game. Texas’ resume is being lifted up strictly by the logo on the helmet. Really, we should be hosting Texas in Knoxville as the 8/9 matchup but no way the Committee drops Texas that far after losing in OT.
