Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I think a lot of our success and success around the league is largely predicated on 2 things none of us have control over.

1. Schedule
2. Injuries

The portal has made most everyone more talented, but less deep or experienced.

Mizzou and Ole Miss have advantages over us in schedule.

Texas is already down to their 3rd or 4th string RB I believe.

We need to handle business against OK and UF. If we drop either our playoff hopes are off. If we win both we still may need someone like Mizzou or Ole Miss to get snake bit. Or we will need to knock off AL or UGA.
The reason for my more pessimistic view of our potential record this season is mainly one reason...injuries along the OL and a couple other thin spots.

Playing with Tennessee while using the Bama playbook.....

A VHS gif. That’s sweet.

I loved both those when I was a little kid, like 5-7 years old. Back when it was ok for kids to have toy guns I would go around pretending to be Marshal Dillon. Dad would tell me I was too clumsy to be Marshal Dillon I had to be Festus 😂
It's still OK for kids to have toy guns...unless you're a pus*y commie.

We really don't disagree, I just hate that we emphasize recruiting over coaching and development, when they are three legs of the same stool. I'll take our position over half the teams above us, because I think our staff is far better, and we're better because of it.
We’ve been conditioned to emphasize recruiting because, frankly, the other two legs haven’t been very sturdy over the past 2 decades. Now that our coaching and development are near the best in all football, I care much less about recruiting.

Generally agree but look what it's done to the medical industry.
I am not saying that all PE is good or bad. I am saying nothing should be painted with a broad brush. We should take each thing as it is and evaluate people and things on their own merit. Not lump them together with other similar things and assume they are all the same. It is dangerous.

Traveling to Lancaster Pennsylvania. Dining options would be appreciated.

Rent a horse and buggy, stop in at an Amish community around Lancaster, yell "Screw the English" and see what you get served that looks relatively disease free but DO NOT drink the unpasteurized milk.

Right behind water and chocolate milk, scotch is just ahead of sweet tea as my favorite drink in the world. Now days, I only have a drink, maybe 2, of top shelf on Saturday night; during the week, while cooking dinner, I'll have a cocktail or two of lower end, like JW Red or Black.
What kind of cocktails do you make with scotch? I genuinely don’t know

No sir. All things are similar and either good or bad.

I've managed many people. And I take fault for those who I hired and turned into duds.

You offered up the manager analogy, not me. But I do think it mostly holds in recruits as well. I as a manager take responsibility for my bad hires, I don't put the blame 100% on them. If I couldn't identify a good employee or motivate a fringe employee to perform, then I own it. A "bum getting through" is my fault, at least partially. And I have hired some bums. Some I was able to motivate not to be bums, the others I had to admit were a bad choice on my part.
Imo..In this situation the sorry bum is the only one to blane....I hate lazy po💩 bums...especially the ones that talk a good talk and even walk the walk just long enough to sucker and take advantage of you...nobody should be blamed for that but the sorry no-good po💩 bum.

There is quality coaching and development at far more schools than the Top 8 on that list - yet that Top 8 accounts for 90% of the Titles won.

What is present at that Top 8 (in addition to coaching and development) in quantities not present at the other schools?

The answer to your Florida question lay with the aforementioned stool.
Three legs. All required. None more important than the other. aTm is a fine example of talent without the other 2 legs. I would far rather be where we are than where they are. With that said, top 5 year after year would be delightful.

I'm not anti-recruiting, just saying that it isn't a panacea.

Have you tried Tennessee’s Veer & Shoot?
Of course. They got our line as average on the game so Nico getting hit in 2-3 seconds lol. I like our offense but can't take advantage of the wide splits bc the line don't hold up, especially the fake Lance Heard. At least playing online anyway.

The Idiot Margin will do what they do.

I'm just offering a (hopefully) balanced counterpoint to those who scoff at the thought that Moore might actually be decent. Maybe there is a middle ground that allows our redshirt freshman phenom to be a little green, and our non-elite walk-on 5th year senior to have actually developed a bit under a coach known for getting the most out of QBs. It's just a little tiresome for every reference to Gaston Moore ever approaching Nico's effectiveness to be offered with an eye-roll or a smirk. Despite the fact that he could clearly start at many other schools, he's chosen to stay here, and the simple fact is that he's looked good and has moved the offense as well or better than Nico in more than one outing. Rather than the extremes of benching Nico or denigrating Gaston with the constant "walk-on" snark, it would be nice to celebrate the really good spot we are in right now.
Agreed...Gaston is the sole reason I ain't sweating depth at QB this year. I want Nico in there, but if he..heaven forbid goes down, or has growing pains etc etc..I really think we can win with GM.

I actually think we would have a smoother, more efficient, more complete offense with GM 8n that situation, than we did last year with Joe.

My company was just bought by a PE firm. We are hiring and growing our business. We have bought more capital equipment and are spending more on building upgrades and repairs than we have in the past 4 years under a publicly traded corporate owner.

I find it usually not good to paint any large group with too broad a brush. For every bad PE firm out there that is ruthless and cut throat and buy businesses to milk the for as much profit as they can before selling them, there are others that want to grow business and increase their value so that they make their money at the sale. Broad brush painting usually leads down a rough road.
They’re paying you to say that! Quit sucking the PE teat, you corporate shill!
